Default My Composition: Please Judge

After much fiddling and thanks for the help given to me by Lefty12357, again thanks for your recording knowledge and passing it on to me.

What really, got me, into doing this first piece, was in fact Podcast 009, which I sent in a poorly recorded voicemail of me improvising on a Dm-G-Dm-C progression.

So I thought I would take that, turn it into a six parter, and create a whole Progressive, concept composition.
Please judge, if you would. 'Tis my first recording and I would like criticism where it counts.

Feel free to download any Part, they all have different melodies to tell the tale.

Ballad of Endless Wood: The Pagan's Homecoming (Part 1)
A very melodic piece, with strings, and if anyone can catch the little humppa reference I put in there, I give you grats.

Ballad of Endless Wood: The Cavern (Part 2)
A short, but dark and sinister piece, built around pizzicato, staccato, distorted guitars, and dread.

Ballad of Endless Wood: The Black Bog (Part 3)
A short, very baroque-ish piece, built around organs, bells, and a somewhat lurking eerie overtone.

(The Other 3 parts will come soon

I really like the parts that you have uploaded thus far. Each, as you remarked, has and evokes its own universe.

I think my favorite is Part 1, seeing as it was stuck in my head as I was taking my shower.

Well then I can see what will draw the most acclaim.

Sweet, melodic picturescapes over dark, sinister conjurations of the darker mind.

Get it, got it, good.

I thought all of them were superb, but "The Cavern," I thought, was in a league of its own. The opening with the guitar was especially kick-ass.

I tried to simulate a cavernous feeling for it, I thought the church organ near the end didn't fit, but I couldn't get anything right other than an organ.

Perhaps I should have named it the Catacomb?

Good work, Barrett. I like the way you think about music. (I hope that makes sense). I could imagine a mellotron fading in at one point, kind of like an old King Crimson touch.

Ballad of Endless Wood: Forest of Age (Part 4)
A piano ballad. It's the one I recorded for the voicemail, extended.

I liked them very much. The first one has kind of a Moody Blues intro feel to me. I hope you like the Moody Blues and or don't mind a comparison. The arrangement really flowed and allowed my mind to drift along.

Nice catch Pepe.
For the first piece, I indeed had a cross influence of King Crimson, Moody Blues, Humppa music, and Fantasy Ballads. As I diverged into the Cavern, I searched for a more of a gregorian chant mixed with some death metal, and I used a very light pizzicato MIDI for the creeping little effects.

Ballad of Endless Wood: The Final Journey (Part 6)

To anyone that can catch the Hobbit reference, I applaud you, to those who can't, I facepalm. This one I experimented in exporting, the previous ones were .wav files, in which I found out were bigger pains to upload. So I exported this as an mp3, and the file was half as big and the length of the piece, three times longer. Looking forward to suggestions and judgment.
