Glad to see that I'm not totally off base with my slang. Is that actually literally what "toc de mac" means? Imitation of pimp? I know how it's used, but I'm intruiged at the similarity between French and English slang, if that is what it is. If so, my work on translating that song is approaching complete :-P One other question. Alizée always identifies toc de mac, when asked, as Ajaccian slang. Not French, not Corsican; Ajaccian. Is it that specific of a location that uses it, or is it more widespread among French youth? Last edited by Cooney; 11-09-2006 at 02:59 AM.. |

So when somebody puts Toc de Fan as a signature, are they implying they aren't a true fan or does Toc mean other things? Toc and Mac were both in my dictionary but like all slang, dictionary's don't really help you understand the true meaning.

Anyway in addition to slang "pimp", your dictionary may also give you "toc" as an interjection: "et toc !" = "so there!". Also, "toqué" means crazy, or nuts, and children often plays with this: "t'es toc toc" ("you're toc toc"), or they'll tap their forehead with their forefinger saying "toc toc toc". At last, "toc toc toc" is also used as an onomatopoeia when you knock at someone's door. |
