Curious about LOL
Do French users type the standard English chat acronyms such as LOL LMAO, BRB, IMHO etc. or are there equivalent French acronyms? The phrase "bye-bye" is pretty much international even in Asia. I'm curious if internet acronyms have reached that same level.

I've seen LOL on French forums, but those forums also contain English members and I think aFrenchie posted what the French equivalent was somewhere on this site, but can't remember where. LOL would not make sense for 'laugh out loud' in French other than that it has been adopted from the English. And I have seen c instead of c'est or g instead of j'y (they sound the same when spoken in French) but not to the extent of the way we use LOL LMAO, BRB, IMHO in English.
EDIT: See I knew aFrenchie knew. Thanks for the link Last edited by Twitch; 12-08-2006 at 02:30 PM.. |

Wow, that's quite a list. I don't think I know as many English slangs as there are French slangs listed there, but who knows - I don't really think about it much :-)
Let's see, some common comparisions from French to English... ama = imo amha = imho asv = a/s/l? bn = gn dac = k dpdr = btdt expldr = rotflol fdp = sob ftg = stfu j're = bak lu = yo mci = thx mdr = lol mp = pm pg = nb stp/svp = plz/pls tah = ttfn
