Ok, I'll have a stab at this. I get the impression that she is 'naturally' quite shy and modest but these tendencies conflict with her desire to 'perform' - especially in public - so she creates a persona, supported by symbols of strength etc, (eg tats, skulls, lucky charms etc) in order to combat her natural tendencies and overcome any feelings of vulnerability. She clearly isn't arrogant or brash or 'in-your-face' like some performers are and of course this is all a part of her charm. I think her feelings of vulnerability are quite obvious when she is performing and it's something I find especially enchanting.

For me, so much of what makes Alizee so special as a performer is as much about all the things that she isn't, as much as what she is.

It's all very refreshing.
