But I agree, it was a bit, well, lacking, but then, again director's cuts generally are.

I presume this is not a leak; the director had announced that he was going to release a director's cut a while ago on his website.
This is interesting; no omnipotent narrator Alizée at all. My opinion: I think Alizée's eyes are open in the kiss to denote surprise (and to signify an absence of voluntary surrender). I also think that this bolsters the allusion to Superman III. . I think the kiss allowed the black Alizée-double to absorb and integrate the pink one, though the face not being shown makes this deliberately ambiguous. Or, perhaps the black one had no face before, and only after the integration, she was able to take off her mask, after assimilating the characteristics of the pink one? "Assimilation"...oops....Borg-speak creeping in. Last edited by fsquared; 11-30-2007 at 06:58 PM.. |

No, I don't think it's new/old Alizée. I don't think either of those figures (pink or black) is Alizée, although obviously pink is played by Alizée, and black is played by another actress but deliberately put together to suggest Alizée, or rather to suggest the same person as pink. Pink is Juliet from the play, and black is Juliet's spirit, fate, or death - but I'm now leaning away from death.
Juliet sees Romeo from her balcony. In the play, this led to their eloping and the sequence of events that led both of them to die and the feud to end. In the clip, this sequence is interrupted by black, who cautions Juliet to be silent, and leads her through scenes showing the decadence and empty pleasures of her wealthy family, then a dance, which turns into a fight between the Montagues and Capulets. Everyone collapses except for Juliet and the masked woman. The masked woman kisses Juliet, taking on her identity, or merging the two. Juliet looks surprised because she didn't see this coming, it's totally different from where her own inclinations would have taken her. Then the masked woman removes the mask and leaves, free at last. In the released clip, we had the same story, but with flashes of Alizée (as Alizée singing the song as if performing on stage), and with a final scene of Romeo abandoned and confused on the balcony -- but alive, which if Juliet hadn't abandoned him he soon wouldn't be.
