following that orange-colored plan, my biggest concerns are the arm stemming from the gear, and the little tooth that would lock the gear. I'm not planning on assassinating any templars just yet, but if I perform an arial assassination on a watermelon I don't want that shit breaking.

Have you ever seen how a Microtech works? They have locks on both ends and are quite a simple operation. However it would take quite the spring to operate the heavier blade you want.
