[QUOTE=aFrenchie;6869]You're right, yippee in French is only youpi. The "-dou" Mylène added could be a reference to those old scoubidous (that word sounds exactly the same), thingies that French children knotted with plastic strips in the 60s:
Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoubidou Images: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fudgeit/sets/421204/ Are there any old timers here that remember Blondie? She had a song called "Denis". She says the word "Youpidou" several times in that song. Blondie sang some lyrics in French in a few of her songs. I don't know if she was part French, but I'd really like Lili to cover one of her songs. I'm sure Lili would make those old songs sizzle with her voice and stage presence. BTW, "Youpidou" being a made up word or not, is really a surprise to me since the song "Denis" came out in 1978. At least, that's what is printed in my CD. Frenchie, could you look into this. Maybe Blondie was singing another word that sounds like "Youpidou". Last edited by rcs; 09-09-2006 at 08:38 AM.. |

http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/blondie/denis.html You're right about the part in the middle that is in French. But the "doo-be-do" things are in the English sections (and "spelled" in an English way). |

I wonder if there's a connection. It looks like scoubidous are the same as "lanyards" (or laniard), which we used to make at camp when I was a kid.

Anyway, it seems like a lot of people missed that post about my friend's mom. That was actually last week, and I ended up not doing my show. This week, at the top of the first hour, I just thanked the DJ who subbed my show for me and didn't say why I was absent. Originally I was going to, but I decided against it.
