Sick stuff, Burzum are racists right?

I don't really listen to black metal, i like dark throne, that's about it. Maybe i should try some other bands thou since i like melancholic melodies, and black metal is melancholic if anything, but i think you should consider what or who you support. I think you should choice your "idols" according to what you would like your fellow humans to be, rather than what seems cool or in this case "true to the nature of the image". Even thou you claim having nothing to do with it, you support it by listening to it, buying cds or whatever.

With great power comes great responsibility, and humans are powerful indeed.

Burzum is a musical project by Varg Vikernes, probably the sickest man in black metal. He's killed fellow bandmates, and burned churches, and is a racist, I absolutely despise him. Good thing he's serving his time in prison for a long...long time...

Black metal's antics are sometimes quite extreme, I admit I listen to the genre every now and then but it is not my favorite, I prefer musically oriented and experimental types of metal like Opeth, Dream Theater, or Tool, and of course I adore folk and paganic viking metal like Finntroll, Amon Amarth, Korpiklaani, Ensiferum, etc.

Varg is quite a scumbag of a person, yes. Does that mean his music automatically sucks? No. Listening to his music is like taking a glimpse of the mind of an insane character, it isn't pretty but it is interesting and its real. So many people get the wrong idea here, that if i enjoy the music of a crazy individual I condone his/her actions. This is absolutely untrue and it gets tiring to be put down because of it. I have the ability to make a seperation between the artist and the art. Varg's music is entertainment, the individial behind it is the one to fear.

Aside from this, I grew up listening to metal. Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Iron Maiden. I became attached to this music. As time went on, I began to dig deeper and deeper into the metal underground and uncovered some odd stuff. I find it interesting to listen to this music, to learn what is going on inside the minds of the individuals who created it. What the group or artist is about is irrelevant, it's the music that matters.

BTW, DarkThrone's music is "True Aryan Black Metal" according to the back cover of the Transilvanian Hunger album. Their anti-semitic views have gotten them into trouble as well.

But on a lighter note, I listen to Alizée because she is the complete package. Looks, voice, movements, personality...the planets aligned when she was born. Hanson, The Spice Girls, Morning Musume, as well as J-Pop and other pop music also dominate my playlists, so it's not all manicial musicians for me.

In the same way that Alizee's music comes from the light and touches your sole the same is true for the dark of metal. I can't tell anyone what to listen to nor would I ever try. Alizee is diametrically opposed in energy and spirit and I just can't see how the two genre's could ever meet or be in the same discussion. I believe the metal guys here are basically good people with good hearts. You would have to be to get Alizee. I have been around for a while and have seen the devistating consequences of not protecting what goes into our minds and hearts. You guys have mentioned the demented consequences of an insane evil mind. Why put yourself at risk. The waters run much deeper than the metal on the surface and the power and exhilaration that goes with it preys upon people with otherwise good hearts and minds. I am saying these things from a caring place. Be very careful you are playing with fire. Lecture over!

I've tried to find a post that you seem to respond to without luck. Nevertheless i would agree that french people act somewhat hostile towards foreigners. I remember when i went to France with my family, this was about 8 years ago. There was some kind of hostility everytime you tried to speak english with them, everywhere you went it was all the same. I remember at the resturants when you tried to do the "check please" emote, you know when you pretend to write the check in your hand, only to get completely ignored. Maybe they don't use that emote in France, but i think it's something else.
I was responding to the bottom statement in the Ali reply. An Obama statement.

Well, I can see where you're coming from. But really I haven't found another genre that deserves the acceptance of my ear.

(It's modern rap that needs the killing! If you want to kill anything! Kill MODERN RAP! Metal is your friend!)

As for insanity, we're all a little insane here, if Alizée asked me to do a backflip, i'd do it, even though I have no idea how to do a backflip, and i'd probably hurt myself in attempting to do so.

I agree 100% about rap crap. It is soulless and very dark and gutteral. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree about metal. I love all kinds of rock music. I went to a Rush concert in Oklahoma City 2 months ago and Ted Nugent 2 wks ago in a casino in Tulsa. My old buddies from highschool that accompanied me to the Ted Nugent/Rush concert in 1978 in Tulsa accompanied me to both of them 30+ yrs later. Neal Pert is the greatest drummer that ever lived in my opinion and that is just it. Some people probably have an issue with R&R and nothing that they say will convince me to stop listening to Rush. Just the way it is. Whatever floats your boat.

Mmm, love Rush. They probably influenced one of the my favorite bands of all time, Dream Theater. Neil's a great drummer, especially for his genre, but for heavier purposes I really adore Mike Portnoy, in fact, I hear Neil and Mike might do a collaborative project, what an apocalypse would that be. Considering Neil is Mike's biggest influence that is, and Mike Portnoy is the second youngest person to be put into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame, trailing Neil Peart.

Metal's a diverse genre, everyone likes it now and then, you just have to know which branch to look for. I say you go hit up Dream Theater, they are like Rush plus Yes plus heavier guitar riffs.

En Concert is actually probably my favorite album overall, actually.
Same here. =D I prefer most live versions of her songs rather than the studio ones.
I figured that most other live performances were lip synced to some degree. xP Can't always be perfect, but she's still awesome.

Me too. I hate metal also. Most pop is lame.. but Alizee is different(french and soulful). I mean, Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears are really lame. Ya know what I mean?

Well i think she lip syncs half the time because she is moving a lot and thats very hard to sing and dance at once.
