Finally got around to watching Metropolis - the 1927 silent film classic. It is considered by some to be one of the best movies of all time (probably because of how ground-breaking it was at the time it was originally released). It's available on Hulu standard.

I saw "The Hobbit" on Thursday.
I have mixed feelings about it, it was less impressive than The Lord of the Rings. I really like the book, I like it even more than the LOTR trilogy... maybe because the LOTR is sometimes a bit too detailed, a bit too long (what I never got is that people were complaining that the end in The Return of the King was too long in the movie... in the book the end was about 100 pages or so?), maybe it's because that The Hobbit was originally a children's book and is a lot more simple. The movie on the other hand is a lot more brutal. And 1/3 of what happens in the movie isn't even part of the book. Peter Jackson put a lot of background infos that weren't in the book into the movie. This isn't bad but the battles took away a bit of the book's charm. And sometimes it felt like the plot wasn't moving forward. but all the extra infos and battles explain why Peter Jackson made another trilogy from a rather thin book. ok this sounds a bit too negative. it was still a good film but had its not-so-good moments. Martin Freeman did a great job as Bilbo, perfect casting. All his scenes were perfect and the scene with Gollum was brilliant! And it had some really great moments as well and ofc beautiful shots of New Zealand. So if I have to rate it it's a 7/10.

TV shows:
Luther(UK), very very good. Idris Elba, the big black guy from Prometheus is in it. Hatufim(Prisoners of War) Israeli TV show. The series Homeland is based on it, but Hatufim is much better. Le Chef.... Jean Reno movie. Excellent. Betty Blue.... A very French Movie. John Carpenter's 'They Live'. Maybe the best alternative flick ever made.(best fight scene ever) Of course Rowdy Roddy Piper is the best.(Canadian) Quotes from the 'They Live' I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum. You see, I take these glasses off, she looks like a regular person, doesn't she? Put 'em back on... [puts them back on] ...formaldehyde-face! Mama don't like tattletales. Frank: Listen, man, I don't like anyone following me if I don't know why they are. Nada: Well, I don't join up with anyone, unless I know where they're going. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096256/ |
