Using one the GIFs, I wonder where this ranks among the best moments of her life? |

Because Alizee was the most popular contestant on the show, I wondered if the producers saw to it that she wasn't eliminated in any of the competitions, and I wondered if the fix was in for her to win the final championship. All those thoughts evaporated when I saw her reaction at winning. She obviously had no idea whether she would win or not and was anxious about the outcome. If there was a fix, she wasn't part of it. |

Alizée on the other hand was an underdog until she set foot on the dance floor. She had to earn every vote she got, week after week. There were some cases in which the, let's call them passionate, angry fans of an eliminated contestant tried to band together to vote against her. Some had similiar suspicions as you, that the producers had faked the love story with Greg to fix her up as the winner in the end for ratings. She hasn't been a popular or even well liked figure in France in many many years. Even back in the MF/LB days, some people judged her negatively for the Lolita image. There was a tv performance of JPVA where just as the song started playing, you can hear an audience member shout some obscene language at her. For that reason it was heartwarming to see some people get behind her over the course of the season. And of course disappointing when the Blonde tour that followed was cancelled for low ticket sales. |

I remember the debate as to whether her affair with Greg was a publicity stunt or not, but the rest of what you posted I had no knowledge. Thanks for the information. |

The hostility directed against Alizee has taken me by surprise. I can understand the enthusiasm of fans, but not the ugliness toward a competitor. I remember one of the dancers on DALS, I don't recall her name, who complained bitterly that Alizee had only to smile and management would give her whatever she wanted. At the time I thought this woman's animus was an exceptional case. I was also surprised that after Alizee's hiatus of two years to have a baby, when a journalist stopped random people on the streets of Paris to query them about Alizee's return, many didn't remember her. One woman, who did, spoke of Alizee as some long past and nearly forgotten entertainer. I have shown Alizee's videos to friends in Texas and been surprised that they didn't see anything exceptional. When I first discovered her on the Internet, I was totally blown away after watching a single four-minute video. Now it surprises me she doesn't impact everyone the same way. Maybe Alizee was TOO nice. She was soft-spoken, respectful and polite. This gives the haters an easy target. I'm sure there was a good amount of jealousy involved being that this nobody from the "land down under" (Corsica) is propelled to fame. She was the French answer to America's Britney Spears, and it just confounds me how the French do not support their own. Edit: Quote:
