Oh, but I assume that in a online conversation I'm not supposed to ignore if someone asks me how I'm doing. I guess "I'm fine, how are you?" is the proper thing to say but as I rarely get a response to this maybe "I'm fine" is enough... That doesn't sound very nice to me though.

Is it the same thing with "How was your day?"? Do you just answer something like "It was good. How was your?" or "It was good"?

I hate when people say « What's up? » or « How are you doing? » when they don't expect a real answer. It's the most awkward greeting ever.

Does anybody else's laptop start running really slowly when they pull out the charger, even if the battery's full?

When I unplug my laptop, the battery life immediately drops to 5%. D:< And yes, it does run slowly.

Well with the "how are you" it really depends on the setting. If you're walking past someone you know, a quick "how are you doing", "good, how about yourself?" "fine" is fine.

If two stop to have a lengthy conversation (either the two people walking stop to chat, or if you take the time to talk to someone online), then a more "proper" response is expected ("I'm alright, I finished all my work and I'm just getting ready to leave" or "I don't feel very well, I might have caught a cold from my neighbor")

It's just our cultural differences

Is it the same thing with "How was your day?"? Do you just answer something like "It was good. How was your?" or "It was good"?

Yep, pretty much.
"How are you?"
"How are you doing?"
"How's your day?"
"How's your mother?"
etc

all different variations of the same general question/greeting.
A simple "fine" or a more lengthy "It was alright, except for that one thing" would work, but generally you're supposed to ask the question back, "and yours?" or "how about you?"

My laptop dies at an exponential rate....

From 100% to about 60%, it's about an hour.. and from 59% to 5% it's about four minutes

I know it must've seemed like a stupid question to you but thank you, I really suck at this and this was exactly what I needed to know.
