Well I think we could incorporate some type of system, the question is which. I think it might be a good idea to have something where you could give a thumbs up to a thread. I think the benefit of that would be in the way we store threads. When you looked let's say in the discussion forum, the first threads you should see should be and I'm just throwing out a figure here is threads that were posted on in the past cou;le of weeks. After that, maybe it would be good to post the threads that had the most thumbs up, making it easier to find popular threads.

As far as thumbs down or dislikes, you could vote thumbs down on a thread, but it would only keep tally of the votes made in the past couple of weeks. Because there are often threads that are good, that may go off topic into an area that is very controversial, seeing a lot of thumbsdown on a thread could give a heads up to a mod, that something is amiss. It could warn them to tell members to get back on subject, in which case a good thread will stay active and will eventually lose the no votes it didn't deserve.

Those no votes could also offer an early warning of threads that may need to be shut down.

Maybe what I propose is too complicated to be implemented, but I figured I'd suggest it.

I think I understand what Helix is talking about when he says about what the royalty likes and dislikes. Me and him have gotten into some major arguements in here. Arguements in which case I think we were both equally wrong not so much for what we were saying, but the way we said it and I think because of what I've done in here, he got looked upon as the evil doer, when as I said we were both equally wrong.

But I think we have a pretty good group of mods here with me being the weakest link. I'm trying hard but I keep making mistake after mistake. Just the other day, in the criticism thread, I questioned whether people wanted this to be a forum for discussion or a place where people come to kiss Alizee's behind and I shouldn't have worded it that way. Bigdan had a very good response to it. He could have gone off on me, but unlike me, he used tact.

As far as Helix, after we did battle, there were times I went off on him at the littlest thing. Totaly unfair. He's been a loyal member for I believe as long as I have. I'd like to see him post more often here. We will get into arguements again.................................let me rephrase that................we will get into discussions again in which we have far differing views, but I will try to do my best to keep it as a discussion.

Scruffydog we are like family here, we fight, we argue and we make up.

Just be glad this board isn't made up with a bunch of drama queens, then the mods would actually have to work.

The problem with that is, if a thread is still popular, it will still be near the top of the page. Or at least on the first page. We don't want to store them based on over all popularity. An example would be, say, LE 2008. That thread was popular at the time, but obviously now, does not need to be held at the forefront.

If a thread is popular, then it will remain active, thus, will remian at a high point on the page, automatically.

I don't think that is needed either. If something horrible is said, members need to use the report button. As for off topic...it happenes, and if it gets too bad, one of the mods, who should already be watching, can clean it up. Plus if we give a thread "bad" marks for simply going off topic, members may skip over a perfectly good thread, thinking its full of badness, when in fact it just a little off topic chit chat.

Another problem with the idea of a rep system or what not, is new members. When I first joined these forums, I would feel a bit scared to disagree with a member who had 75975387596397592763 posts, to my 4. A reputation system could do the same thing. Members may not want to disagree with a member who has a "we all love this member" rep, if they themselves only have a "wait, when did this guy join?" rep. We want new members to feel like their views and opinions matter, and are vauable, regardless of post count and reputation status.

At the end of the day, we all know the members that make constant good posts, and we know the members who make the....not so good posts. (Looks at Azhiri)

While overall it's not a bad idea, and I'm sure it works great on other boards, I just don't think this forum needs something like that.

Well Brian changed his post so what I said would no longer make sense.

Too many times have people argued over the same points going in circles only to get the thread closed when the same debate will come back since it was never resolved in the first place. That's when I try to find out the motivation for why people have their views so maybe something can actually be resolved. It usually doesn't go well though.

If some guy with 3 posts wants to single me out he should be able to. I'm sure every person here could have been put in their place by unregistered viewers who chose not to get involved. It's lower class civility but it gets closer to the truth and is better than telling somebody to F off. All I've ever wanted was for the things I say to be understood even if people hate me for it.

Going forward there might be less to disagree about.

It's always come down to her character and situational judgement for me rather than her career. Since the last album the values I respected are disappearing. But that's for another thread.

As far as incorporating a rating system for threads or posts, I think that's a feature that would be far better-suited to a much larger forum. On AAm, we have a relatively small pool of regular posters. The practical purpose of such a rating system would be to decide at a quick glance whether a topic is interesting or "good" enough to bother going into.. do we have that many topics being generated each day that we would really need to do that? It's a nice idea, but as well as the negative connotations that ALS and Helix mentioned, it's just not really something we need at the moment.

This is true, and it doesn't make much sense to me. Most if not all discussions to be had around here involve people debating about their opinions. It's silly because there's nothing to be debated about an opinion, it's just an opinion. We've seen members go back and forth here about the most subjective of ideas. There is no resolution to such arguments, people will think what they want to think. There's nothing wrong with wanting to find out more about why a member might think the way they do, but it becomes a problem when insults start flying around. There's an important life skill to be practiced in that situation, and that is the skill to respectfully disagree.

Absolutely. As a mod I want every member to feel like they can speak his or her mind on this forum without being attacked or victimized by some kind of clique. This is why threads get locked, members get temp bans, etc.

I also agree with

That also is a problem with some boards where people want to be the Grand Poo Bah's who post endlessly to get their post counts up. Then they act like they are all knowing on what ever subject the board may have been started for. Nothing worse than arguing or trying to have a discussion on a particular point and having to deal with one of these light on knowledge of the subject, heavy on the ego, idiots. Once they get a foot hold, start watching the number of posting members drop fast.

I've been here since 2007 and tank God we have never had a group of these people gang up on the other members on this this board. Even on the other Alizée boards that I pop onto once and a while, everyone seems to play well together. Which tells you a lot about the kind of people who are fans of Alizée.

Personally I feel things are working fine now the way the board is set up.
Maybe clean up the forums by putting in a sub forum archive (Sticky) inside each group that threads that have not been responded to for say a year or more, are sent to this folder. That way if someone wants to look back two, three or more years the threads they're all in one place. We'll no longer have a forum like Alizée Discussion with 91 pages of threads going back to 6/22/2006 we would have only 11 active pages. If someone finds an archived thread that they want to respond to in this archived sub-forum it would go back into active status, until another year passed with out any activity.

EDIT

I just want to add this for your entertainment. One of my buddies on another board came up with this, this afternoon.

Quote:
If I was the internet czar - URL's would have to accurately reflect what the forum is really about.
...
That way, people don't go to a forum they don't belong to by mistake.
I have a better idea. Instead of .com, .gov, .org, .edu, .co, .tv, and so on, add some new ones for forums and blogs that allow people with serious issues to go and post in order to use their keyboard to work out their own unique vision of Primal Scream Therapy:

.rant - Sites featuring endless bitching about products or services and no usable content.

.troll - Sites offering trolls a safe haven to post their flame bait, much like placing all the violent criminals in the world on a deserted island so they can all fight it out. On the .troll sites, be sure to post in the "Welcome to our Site" thread so you can get your first slap-down within minutes of joining.

.ego - A haven for the sanctimonious, the egotistical, and the narrow minded. Every member should have the self-proclaimed expertise of a certain Almighty Engineer that some may know from a hybrid-car-focused forum. The rules: Every thread must erupt into name calling by the third post, or the thread is deleted. Every post must consist of at least ten paragraphs of obscure data and theorems punctuated by graphs. Posts without irrelevant graphs are deleted, as are posts that don't repeat the same questionable content several times, as though the user were practicing copying and pasting text.

.godwin - A place to post when you feel that Hitler is the cause and/or solution of any conflict or challenge the world has ever known. Members' profiles get little gold stars in their signature tag each time another site member compares their opinions or views to those of Hitler.

.spam - The place to go to advertise the fact that you have unlocked cell phones or low-cost Viagra (which is actually the blue diamond marshmallows out of a box of Lucky Charms) or adult DVDs or $99 week-long cruises to a tropical destination. Links pointing to .cn or .ru domains are stickied so users can find them faster, click on them, and key in their credit card and social security numbers.
