I read the article and I know that it was women's rights organizations that pushed this through. I still find it upsetting that basic decisions are being taken away just because a group of women decide what is best for all other women.

It is frustrating. It seems that in most cases the squeaky wheel gets the grease especially in this era of political correctness. The few seem to be dictating for the many.

I agree, I don't like those kinds of organizations for that reason. They may mean well but some of their endeavors just aren't practical, and most of the time I feel a little embarrassed that some people think all women would be so sensitive toward certain subjects.

I have to agree with them. With regards to legal documents (and legal documents only), if they want to know whether someone is married or not they should ask that question. If they have no valid reason for asking the question then it should not be on a legal document.
