Great poem, it's quite lovely in many manners easily caught through the eyes of few, but I will not ask where ^that^ came from...
'scuse me.

Thought this might be handy since the subject of poetry has been brought up. My trilogy, The Wretched and the Light.

However sweet your melody haunts
A deathly shade forever lost
I'm cursed with darkness
You blessed with light
A memory serves for wrong and for right
I wait here chained
You walk in ease
You're forever warm and i'm doomed to freeze
I require to see
If only a hint of bliss
Your eyes or your voice
Brings the shade to rejoice
Upon his hateful corpse
Or his dark frayed soul
Forever in harmonial happiness stands
Forever the peace in me never resides
Upon the nonexistant touch of your hand
I shall never die until you stand by my side
Until then the shadow remains
Watching and Waiting
As you, the blessed
Shine in the world beyond me
The songbird sings in the dawn of morn
The faithful man, he sits and stares
The songbird sings with zeal forlorn
And the man is entranced by the voice mysterious
Forever the songbird sings and flies
Forever the man watches and sighs
He follows the songbird through her journeys around
The great large world, just to hear the sound
Of the songbird's voice, each time another
He is entranced by the songbird's fervor
The man cares not, for material things
But to enjoy natural beauty
Such as that of our songbird
Is the priceless cost, that should always be paid
Abandon your sword, your shield, and your worries
And hear the songbird, sing her song
For all the world to hear
For enemies to fear
For all mankind, to forever Revere.
A bright summer day
Is the fear of the frayed
Your realm is much strange
To the heart of this stranger
Who patiently strides
Amongst darkest of nights
Awaiting the light
That shines zealously bright
A lady amongst
the wretches and slaves
She gives them her hand
And with the other she waves
Her windswept hair
Move like leaves in the fall
Her kind eyes meet ours
We turn our heads in fear and cower
The lady sings kindly
As we turn our heads
From the cowering state
To meet our own dread
We see a small lady
Yet presence so great
And the wretches and slaves
Defy their cursed fate
And they rose to form men
not wretches not slaves
But brave, willing men
Not wretched, not pained
The strength of this lady
In all her fairness
Finds the most lost of souls
Soothes the most pained
And breathes life unto millions
In all her fairness
the unknown strength of one lady

Alizee's new album of course and a little nostalgic Jimmy Hendrix reference to one of his songs. I'm sure you don't know of which I am referring . Ha! Ha! I didn't quote words from one of her songs did I? If I did it was purely by accident. I also know how much Alizee likes purple. It just fits the psychedelic acid rock theme.

I really like this poem. Definitely has that English flare.

I hope that was sarcasm, but if you think a guitarist doesn't know the entire songlist of Jimi Hendrix's career, then I pity you!

But yeah I totally catch your reference.

I resemble that remark! Yes of course I was being sarcastic. I am sure that you know the Jimmy Hendrix experience. Not that I have ever dropped any purple microdot. I wasn't sure if you were saying that I plaisurized those lines or exactly what you were referencing. It could have been a number of things as I tend to analyze everything with my imagination.

I'm in the poetry mood! I have one more short one that speaks to this post. I shared on another post.
LOVELY ALIZEE

She has the face of an angel and a voice so heavenly
Moves with poise and such delicacy

Beautiful from every angle sheer ecstasy
Sweet as candy with a smile that makes me melt
Those brown eyes glisten with an intelligent gaze emitting feeling beyond that which can be felt
Every song she sings never ceases to amaze
With such vulnerability, tenderness and grace
I have to love her from afar as I have no choice
She a daughter of France and I a son of the USA
Though I never fail to rejoice
When I think of her My eyes become moist
Not from sadness, desire, or choice
Nor even about romance
She has the heart and playfulness of a dolphin and the courage of a lioness obvious from just one glance
It's a plutonic love you see
Quite ironicall discovered while on my PC
I pray for peace, health and prosperity
Jeremy, Annily and lovely Alizee

I sent this one to Alizee, but no response to date. Not really surprised. She probably gets thousands of e-mails. Hope I haven't bored yall to death.

Sorry Tomtenp this post took on a life of it's own although it pertains to what you were asking. I went back and read your questions when you started this post. I don't think anyone has a definitive answer about the attraction to Alizee other than the obvious. Her character, physical beauty, her charisma, her charm, very genuine, talented singer and entertainer. I'm as stumped as you are as to what exactly it is that she has or is that gets her this much attention. I listen to all kinds of music from Rock to the Blues, to Jazz to some Bluegrass and country. Most pop singers I can take with a grain of salt. Most of the pop singers in the US I have little respect for as people and like on the same level that I liked Disco. I'm a rock purest and Disco sucks! in my opinion. Disco and rap is to music as the etcha sketch is to art. Alizee is lightyears above all that in talent and all of the other stuff I already mentioned. She is the iconic perfect woman even though she is just a human and sparks something deep inside that touches the human psyche and especially males subconsciously and consciously. Males are very visual anyway. She stimulates all my senses except taste and smell in a powerful way. Men have been pounded in recent yrs.with a lot of feminazi shame and are the butt of jokes in many social circles. Men have to perform in order to experience love otherwise they are invisible. Alizee appears to be devoid of anger or resentment towards men in fact appears to enjoy male attention and I think men especially are attracted to that genuineness. Especially an intelligent, attractive, humble, talented woman without an attitude or that angry white female thing that doesn't look good on any woman. Just call me Dr. Freud. You just thought you had the corner on the market at analyzing everything lol! That is my way simplified version and I could be wrong on all counts.

Everyone so far, has eloquently described what they think Alizée has that makes us so enslaven to her, heart and soul.

To simplify it, let's say that Alizée has what some call the "X Factor". This is that unknown quanity and quality, that may be described in many ways by many people, but it simply means that she has something others do not have that draws us to her in a way no other person has the power to do.

We try to describe it in words, but they fall short. It encompasses all things about her, the tangible, and the intangeble, and cannot be totally put into words to include everything about her that we are trying to describe fully. Verbally, we always come up short when trying to explain why we love Alizée in complete terms.

So either call it the "X Factor" , or more appropriately here, the "Alizée Factor"

My question is why did i start listening to Alizée and why can't i stop?
We all know she is beautiful and seemingly wonderful as a person, but i don't think that's all there is to it. Let's conentrate on the music.

Troughout my life i have listened to all these very diffrent bands that seemingly have no bounds to each other in anyway.

When i was little i listened to various techno bands and my favourite was The Prodigy, a "electronic punkband". Strangely at the same time i was into No Doubt, a popband. Later i started to listen more and more to metal bands and discovered Opeth and Katatonia.

Now what does all these band have in common, it's the melancholic sound.
Shortly after i discovered Alizée i found out about Mylene Farmer which music i love aswell. I have found many other french artist recently and it seems to me that french musicans are good at creating melancholic songs.

Maybe it's just me thinking to much again but im curious.
What do you guys listen to else than Alizée?
Is there maybe something else about Alizée that im missing?
Maybe it's just "love" that's messing with my "judgement"?

What do you guys think?
Tomtentp, I am also very analytical. It bothered me for a long time that I could not understand how Alizée affects me like no one else. I looked at my feelings and tried to break them down so I could comprehend the joy her voice and image bring to me. It is impossible, the feelings don't allow logical thought, they interfere. I have made my peace and just accepted. When I was in Mexico I saw the same effect in others; logical, "manly" men entranced by this tiny girl.

My suggestion to you, let this be a part of your life you don't have to understand. Just enjoy.
