Well I'm glad you've taken it like that Scruffy, I was seriously concerned about the possibilty of a heart attack when you saw that. Didn't you even spit your coffee out?

At first glance, I said that's not her, but there was no mistaking that arm.

Well if it was just a picture taken during the normal course of her everyday life, it would have bothered me and if that's what she thinks of this country, it would bother me, but it was done in conjunction with her appearence in that magazine and there's no point in getting upset until I know the whys and the wherefores.

What does that picture mean according to you guys?

It's a confusing picture, but first of all, with the U.S. flag being so prominently displayed, what ever message she is sending is directed towards this country. We see the shark which could represent the sharks she had referred to before, years ago when she was talking about our media.

Most of the other things in it obvioulsy paint a violent and sexual picture and the cuffs on her may point towards violence towards women. Then there is the tiara on her head. I'm not sure what this is trying to depict. Maybe a rich spoiled girl being brutalized or maybe handing out the brutality?

Then the position of her tongue makes it look like she is turned on by either being the victim or doling out the punishment or watching the punishment being doled out.

Yeah, I don't see the purpose of the US flag. But maybe the rest of it is symbolic of the business she finds herself in. Maybe because many of her fans think of her as a princess and expect her to be and behave like a princess all the time. And she is handcuffed by an industry and an image that tries to control her. The violent aspect may be symbolic of attempts to fight back. I don't know, but my guess is that much of it was conceived by the magazine staff and photographers.

Maybe one of our French members like Bigdan can give us some insight into what the US flag could symbolize from a perspective outside the US.

I'm liking it more and more. As Azhiri pointed out in another thread, she takes it as a fun homage to American horror films. And that's probably the best explanation, and it explains the flag. In any case, I think it's the kind of thing to lighten up on, and not take seriously. As I said elsewhere, I think Alizée is just having a bit of fun.
