Correct me if I'm wrong Dreamer, but I believe there was an American Army stationed in your country for what? 45 years?

Lets hope we're not in Iraq for 45 years, but I fear, that anything LESS than that is a complete waste of time. You have to give an entire generation time to grow up, expecting peace to be the norm... which I do not believe is happening right now in Afghanistan or Iraq....

To Ogre: But you shove all the other facts down the drain like the fact that 90,000 - 100,000 (atleast) civilans lost their lives (according to iraqibodycount.org) + the facts that over 4,000 Americans lost their lives, 3 trillion dollars of our tax-payers money wasted. By the late 90's Kurdistan was a protected area anyways. How convenient you don't mention those other facts. None of those would have happened if the Iraq war was started. By the way where are those darn WMD's? That just proves that Bush is an accomplished liar.

^^Nuff said.

I for one am happy that we have resoundigly elected an anti-Iraq war President.

Oh I see...They only like him becuase he is a communist, marxist, or socialist.
I guess it has nothing to do with the fact that people around the world like many American's find him inspiring. Or the fact that they want America to get back on it's feet again and restore it's moral leadership after 8 years of George Bush failed economic & foreign policy. Or the fact that he has inspired many children around the World including here in America to go into public service and aspire to become the President? Or the fact that many people connect with him becuase he comes from a very humble brackground. No, it has nothing to with all that stuff, it's only becuase he is a marxist, communist.

I like alot of other Americans are SICK AND TIRED with all the Repbulican smears against this great individual. I have had to my neck with all these lies against President-Elect Obama. People on this thread came to congratulated Obama on his historic victory even the one's who didn't vote for him. You on the other hand the first thing that comes out of your mouth is the word, "communists, socialistsl, marxists." HOW CLASSY! Thankfully, as the election proved, people like you are increasingly becoming the minority.

The neo-cons should be roundly condemned for their actions. It's becuase of them we are wasting $10 billion dollars in Iraq ($120 billion a year) while American's at home are struggling to make ends meet. We are going broke fighting the war in Iraq, we wouldn't be in this mess if we didn't go into Iraq in the first place. So,f$$k the neo-cons! Obama is the Best!

Lol, nice comback. Neo-con lies for all the world to see. I rest my case.

Let's keep it to talking about Barack Obama and his historic victory, who cares about the neo-con nazi losers. They are the past, Obama is the future.

Setting aside questions of policy ('cause I get plenty of that on the politics forum I participate in), I just want to say that, unlike most of you, I am old enough to remember the days when overt racism was publicly acceptable in America. I had an uncle who was a KKK member. My father considered himself a flaming liberal in the 1960s because he, a Texan, believed in civil rights and racial equality. When I was a boy, I would have been very skeptical of the idea of a black person being elected president in my lifetime. And now it's happened.

Whatever else Obama accomplishes, he has already improved our country's relations with our allies, by showing that the American people aren't quite as retrograde as the past two elections may have suggested. People in Europe, Canada, and other countries around the world have heaved sighs of relief and are smiling when they think of us. And that's before he's even been sworn in.

We are facing a transformative crisis the likes of which has never happened in my lifetime, or that of anyone younger than his or her seventies. We shall see if Obama is up to the task, but I can't think of any more appropriate choice to step up and try. Goddess bless America. There's hope for us yet.

Obama has a chance to not only help America regain her balance and prestige globally, but also a chance that few presidents before him have had: the opportunity to become great. He has obviously become a symbol of America's progress in the realm of civil rights and will be hailed in future history books as such, but the road ahead is long and treacherous. The three greatest presidents in American history (according to most people) - Washington, Lincoln, and Roosevelt - each had their own crisis to deal with, and were able to lead America to prosperity. Obama has been charged with leading the country through a crisis of similarly monumental proportions, and whether he succeeds in his efforts, and ascertains his place in history, is yet to be seen.

A heart-felt congratulations to Barack Obama on his Historic Victory! I am so pround that our country has reached this historic milestone! May his four years be prosporous (unlike the last eight). I am happy that my guy won! Can't believe it!

By the way, election exit polls show that the topic that most topic that interest Americans is "the economy." Things such as "gun control" have very little value to 99% of Americans. Just thought I would share that with you.

Rather than lock yet another thread, I've heavily cut this one... for now.
