The only reason you want to leave politics out is because the whole process is so political to begin with and I beleive one of the main reasons she should come here is to get away from all the snobberish people in the european continent.

And people wonder why some dislike the Americans? Are you really 54 years old or more like 12?

Wow, this thread sure deteriorated fast !
I don’t think Alizée avoids the USA because of politics or a dislike for the people here. It’s a huge market and a bit scary because of it. When she was younger, she mentioned the “sharks”, and I think she just didn’t know better. She probably now realizes the music industry is run by huge multinational corporations that span the globe and what sharks exist, are everywhere. She now has the strength and courage to negotiate her own terms or just walk away. Why come to the USA? Because a country of 300 million Americans still spends a lot of money on music CDs, and Alizée makes a living by making and selling CDs. And even a relatively unknown artist in this country can still sell 100,000 CDs in a niche market here. That’s no guarantee she would, but it might be possible. Her business people would have to help her determine that. Some TV exposure and having her CD readily available would help. I wouldn’t encourage her to tour here because I don’t think that makes economic sense at this point. No one believed that a British band could come to America in the sixties and be successful playing rock n roll to the people who invented it. I’m glad the Beatles didn’t pay attention to such ideas and did it anyway. I know, they still sang in English. Well I would argue that it was just as doubtful for the America of the sixties to accept a British rock band as it would be for the America of today to accept a beautiful and talented pop singer singing in French. In another thread, Rocket has given other successful examples of foreign language songs that have been big hits in the US. It's not unheard of. If Alizée doesn't sell the CDs she needs to in Europe to maintain her career, then she might want to consider alternative markets. This isn't about the USA, it's about Alizée. |

This thread is sooooooo silly.
First of all, it seems to me that Alizée is one of the least politically outspoken celebrities I've ever heard of. I'm not at all sure what kind of political views she holds. She has never expressed them, and I very much doubt if politics has anything at all to do with why she has never come to the U.S. to perform. Secondly, in view of the fact that the Americans who disliked the French over the Iraq war were surely all Bush supporters, and there are maybe two or three Bush supporters left in the country at this date, and that's assuming his wife is one, which is probable but not a sure thing, I doubt that would be a factor either. It's conceivable that Mylène's politics played a role, but quite unlikely that they still do. I'm quite sure the reasons Alizée has not come to America are the ones she's given: she was unaware of her fan base here, she recognizes the cutthroat nature of the music business in the U.S., and the expense to penetrate this huge market is very high, requiring a considerable return to justify it. In my opinion, that return isn't here yet. She would need more U.S. exposure and consequent album sales before she could justify touring here. I don't want to say up front whether it would be possible or not, but I think it's worth a shot at developing the market -- but at this stage, if I were advising her, I'd say don't come to perform yet.
