So according to this; Alizee will let the audience determine which songs are sung.
I think it would work good if they allowed people to give her lists of songs to sing; rather than any other way, but there is lots of time she has to work out the arrangement.

While I agree that Alizée has a supernatural level of beauty, the contest is Miss Supra-(like Toyota Supra! Means the best level, to be above everything else, like "super")-National (like International). So basically, the "best" young woman of all countries.

You are right in that its a beauty pageant (with the emphasis on "beauty"), its been running since 2009 and growing in size and popularity since then, its usually held in Poland but has people competing from all countries that wish to take part. It was an attempt to take over from "Miss World" and "Miss Universe" and recreate how they used to be in the 80s and 90s, with some people feeling those organisations over time have evolved to be less traditional beauty pageants and more about social and political causes. (I don't think that these forums are the best place to discuss opinions either way, I'm just stating the facts about what this pageant is, why it exists and why it is popular.)

I was surprised but happy when I saw Alizée had been asked to perform - not surprised because she doesn't deserve to be at a beauty pageant - of course it makes perfect sense! But I was surprised because I didn't personally know that Miss Supranational was still going - I don't follow the Pageant world.

But I was personally aware of the brand because in 2009, as a regular on the "celebrity" circuit in London I was invited to a big show that (I think) was the selection of the British entrant for the pageant. I had never heard of it before, which is not surprising, as it was actually the very first year! But I was persuaded to go because at the time, my co-star and love interest in a small British movie was a former beauty queen and working for an agency that was representing several of the models. She basically told me that if I attended there would be free food and drinks, I would be treated very well and she would introduce me to all the women! So how could I say no?

I must say that night was quite the experience - the venue was enormous, the champagne was free and following and every man there was treated like royalty - in fact there WAS some royalty there from several countries, I probably shouldn't say which. Also plenty of movie producers that I recognised, some big stars, and people that I was told were very powerful politicians and business owners. While I didn't see anything untoward happening and everything was super professional, I personally felt a bit uncomfortable as every wannabe model that was there was being extremely over friendly and flirtacious, in the way that you experience in a strip club or a hooters or something, while wearing not very many clothes and becoming more drunk as the night went on, so I felt worried that it would be very easy for them to be taken advantage of by some of the extremely rich and powerful men.

However as I said I saw absolutely nothing untoward, and the event itself was extremely professional and well done so I'm not claiming the organisation was anything bad in any way. Especially as it was their first year establishing themselves and it was many years ago, I'm sure that nowadays any potential problems have been ironed out, I've not heard of any controversies related to the company and its now a very long running and well established event. I'm happy that Alizée's beauty and talent is still being recognised to this day, and her being invited to perform there was an honour and a tribute to her beauty being internationally famous!

Usually they aren't doing real time AI translation they are just Android screens linked by Wifi and there is one person typing real time translations (or just pasting what was already planned an on autocue) and sending it out to all the screens. Often they have a headphone jack so you can here an audio translation too, for those that prefer that so they can watch properly, or if they are visually impaired.

I first noticed them starting to be used at award shows and charity galas etc in European countries about 10 years ago, but that doesn't mean they didn't exist before then, as before that time it was unusual for me to attend events outside of America, Britain, or the Disney Parks.

Of course, nowadays, just for 1 to 1 conversations at such events, pretty much every modern smart phone can do this in real time with AI apps! Its incredible - although I try to always use my French first to force me to practice, and I only use a translator when there is something specific that I can't say or can't understand.

I must really be out of the Times; as I still just have a Flip-Phone ! Ha ! So I do not know what is going on ? Ha ! Samuel Victor !
