I werent familliar with the lotsberg mountains myself, but I did some research and it seems it indeed is some mountainchain or whatever ^^.
On google I found a link to a site about tunnels.
On the site there was a picture of "the world longest tunnel" being opened by the norwegian king Harald.
And when I saw this picture there was something reeeeally familiar....
I actually think my family was driving trough that tunnel on our way during a holiday maaany years ago.
As I am seeing it your grandfather is telling you the truth

Yes, my favourites switch around a lot too, still (been fan since Dec 06).
