I have nothing to contribute to this discussion in terms of actual foreign relations and politics, but I don't think there are many people over here who genuinely hate France (for valid reasons, anyway). I occasionally hear that the French are snobs, but a lot of people also say that Americans are ignorant and slobby, which is not true of many of us. I think a lot of people here base their opinions of other countries on what they see in movies and on TV.

Na, everybody "hates" France, I say this in a humorous way. It is all about stereotypes. French are rude, spanish are lazy, italians are loud, germans are square heads...
All of the above are exagerations, based in a tiny percentage of true facts. This reminds me the funny maps thing Europe according to Americans for example

oh I know that map... I'll never get it why Germany is "Dirty Porn" or I'm simply watching the wrong movies...
 about stereotypes.. I always thought Germans are the rude people, not the French? someone has to explain "square head" to me or better the meaning here... I'm googling it but I get several different meanings (oddly enough they all kinda match...) sorry for offtopic

Here we say "square heads" as people with discipline, with a mindset very focused in working, almost like machines or robots. Not a really bad thing, and certainly not rude, at least the ones who spend holidays in spain!
