I caught the tail end of a French film called Les Voleurs earlier tonight.

It seemed like a pretty neat film, although the little boy's adult-like attitude startled me.

It was good, not great but good. If you've read some of the reviews, there is a reason many people say tom cruise probably shouldn't have been the final choice to play that role. He did Ok, but it felt as if he didn't want to play the character to it's full potential.

I watched it today as well: best movie of the year, I think. Freida Pinto is too beautiful .

Not really a film, but I've been renting DVDs of the complete fourth season of Lost, which I recently got into.

Loved it. Couldn't help but watch this movie and think of my life.
It's very inspirational for those stiffs who think jobs, education, and all that jazz are above personal enlightenment.

Saw this tonight with my brother, who is a huge Will Smith fan. Surprisingly, I think I enjoyed it more than he did. It's not a great movie by any means, but I don't think it deserved to be savaged by the critics the way it has been, either. (I did figure out the big "mystery" of the movie about ten minutes in, though.) It has an awesome catchprase, if nothing else--"Don't touch the jellyfish" deserves to be next year's "The cake is a lie".

Anyway, a funny thing happened about two-thirds of the way into it. During a pivotal scene, one of the characters puts on the song "For Me Formidable" by Charles Aznavour. Without really realizing it, I started bobbing my head and quietly singing along.

My brother stared at me in amazement. "How the hell do you know that?!"

"Oh, Alizée sang it as a duet with Jenifer in honor of his 80th birthday."

"Oh, Christ..." My brother's look of amazement turned to something closer to disgust. "It's like you're in a goddamn cult, or something."

I laughed so hard at this, in the middle of what was supposed to be a very tender, moving scene. People actually glared at me, which only made me laugh harder. I actually had to leave the theatre to compose myself. It was pretty funny.

Cool story, Ruro, although I'd be more careful next time, things can get pretty testy in movie theaters ('Man Shot for Making Noise During Movie' ): http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/558749

Oh, and what are everyone's top 5 movies of the year ? Mine:

1. Slumdog Millionaire
2. The Dark Knight
3. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
4. Tropic Thunder
5. Wanted

I'd have to go with:

1.) Pineapple Express
2.) The Dark Knight
3.) Tropic Thunder
4.) Zack and Miri Make a Porno
5.) Yesman

Heh. Yeah, I read that this morning. Fortunately, that was in Philly, and I'm in Toronto, where the worst you can expect is a very polite shushing.

A lot of the movies that have wound up on people's 'ten best' lists this year (Wall*E, Tropic Thunder, Slumdog Millionaire), I actually haven't seen yet...but here's my picks:

1. The Dark Knight
2. Iron Man
3. Zack & Miri Make A Porno
4. Role Models
5. Hancock

...with an honorary mention going to Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist.

Clearly, I'm all about the superheroes and dick & fart jokes...though oddly, the one movie that combined the two (Superhero Movie) was probably the worst I saw all year.
