Default guys who like Alizée and her work are gay?

i just got a message from a youtube user who saw my video, and im guessing he's from France. this is what he asked me..

Quote:
pardon my indiscreetness but in France most of boys who like Alizée's work are gay, and I wonder if it's true in the whole world. So... Are you ?
lol

i have to say that is 100% false, but i dont know many guys who live in France. i dont think its true for you guys who are on this site either, but im sure you guys are nice and straight. anyway, its just a silly question

he also says that Alizee is pretty much forgotten in France, and he's surprised that people around the world are still listening to her music. i told him im hoping with this new album coming out, she'll be back to top the charts in France once again =)

It's said that Mylène has very large gay fan base. And excatly when talking about male fans. And partly because of that, I wouldn't be surprised that it affects Alizée's fan base, too.

Hard to tell if it's true but yes, that's what is believed. It's been so since the beginning.

And it's kinda understandable. If you are gay guy, it's easier to concentrate on the music itself. And when you are truly enjoying her music, it's harder to stop liking her.

As a huge fan, it's difficult for me to approach these questions objectively. I don't exactly understand how any straight male who also enjoys her music isn't a fan, be him French or otherwise. Oh well, I'm not going to try to rack my brain to figure it out. I know what I like and I'm just gonna go with that.

If you think it deserves an answer:

"I've followed Alizée for over a year now and the issue of sexual preference amongst her viewers has never come up, nor would it be an issue with me regardless of how the facts fall out. Bottom line: the sexual preference of Alizée's listeners has ZERO EFFECT on MY ENJOYMENT of Alizée's music.

Her music is good of the type it is, but it is of a certain type, all written by Laurent, all following a certain pop formula. For those who prefer a completely different style, it's not going to resonate well. The lyrics are all written by a true artist but are most of them quite different from the lyrics she (Mylène) sings herself.

But her new album won't be Laurent/Mylène and I think there will be quite a few surprises. She recently stated that the songs will vary a lot musically and be a real branching-out. This matches what I'm sensing. She's older, not only in years but also in experience and life generally. A lot of the impressions of the past will no longer apply very well.

As for her old work attracting a large audience of gay men, that's possible. Sort of a modern-day version of Judy Garland in that respect? Could be.

Some of this may just come down to simple prejudice or a kind of music elitism. It seems a lot of guys who are into what they consider ‘manly’ music look down their noses at pop music and don’t take it seriously. They are especially hard on female pop artists. They wouldn’t be caught dead listening to it, but I bet many of them secretly like at least some of it.

I even know a few guys that don’t like anything sung by a woman, no matter what genre it comes from. To them, rock music is a man’s world and everything else sucks. I think they are the ones that would label all male Alizée fans gay.

I’m sure Alizée has fans from every race, color, creed, age, nationality and sexual orientation. No single group has a monopoly on good taste in music. In a way I feel sorry for people whose prejudices won’t allow them to enjoy all that the music world has to offer.
