Although exactly why it has that impact in English has always somewhat mystified me.
Yeah, I've come to realize we only have cuss words and most other taboo words, simply because sociolinguisticly, we want cuss words and taboo words. The point of swear words is to have that special emotional impact, often just as an interjection and very, very rarely actually mean anything close to the actual denotation of the word used. Similarly, there are always other synonymous words with exact same denotation as the taboo words but are perfectly acceptable (and by contrast are actually used to mean their denotations); they only differ in connotation. Needless to say, there's nothing inherently bad or offensive about certain combinations of phonetic sounds. So essentially, socially, we just have designated taboo words so that when we want to shock or offend someone, or just need to express certain levels of anger or frustration, we have a battery of words designated for that purpose. So when it comes to cuss words, I've just decided "Ah f*ck it!... they're just an abstract social construction anyway." Unfortunately that doesn't mean I can use the words as freely as I'd like in public since others haven't adopted my enlightened () perspective.

As for the video, clearly it doesn't have the same impact in French... But hey, it's part of a concert series called Les Enfoirés anyway

Smile OK, here's the longer video I promised

OK, here's a link to the longer video of Alizée singing in the one of the Les Enfoirés 2010 medleys which also incorporates the "F.. U" song of the shorter video edit also.

For those of you who wanted the video, my promise has now been delivered.
