Well you have to admit that a personality like Alizee would not be possible to shine in the American pop industry or she would self destruct like Britney. There is so much commercialism, materialism going on in the US that they would have just stretched her to the limits in order to sell as much as possible. I'm not american but I hate this flashy and shallow culture in music and hollywood films where everything that glitters is profitable even if it is garbage. Alizee was manufactured as a commercial product too but the difference in her culture and the more refined european environment allowed her to shine without becoming a plastic barbie. I'm not overlooking the fact that America has brought to light awesome bands, films etc but it seems that this is the exception to the rule nowadays.

You know, if for Alizee's career to take off in US means that she'll be going against everything that she is right now, then I'd rather she doesn't make it here, to be honest. She's one of the best kept secrets in France and Europe as a whole. I just wouldn't want to see someone as special as her wither away needlessly.

America as a country is pretty cool.
Well then you're just not listening to the right stuff. The idea that "everything had gone downhill" is a misnomer; mainstream pop hasn't really changed in decades. There was some BAD pop in the 70s, 80s, and 90s - it's just been mostly forgotten.

If you don't like the mainstream scene, then maybe it's time to go underground...

Listen to indie radio, read music blogs...do your research, and don't settle for what ClearChannel or MTV says is "good."

It's got nothing to do with America. There is some absolutely vomit-inducing music being made in Europe, too. You just haven't found your niche...yet.

*sigh*

I do not understand why everyone compares Alizée to Britney Spears. Why not compare her to our GOOD artists like Amy Lee or Jewel? There are many many great artists here that do not make the tabloids everyday.

I also think that is a good reason why she could come here and not have to worry so much about the "sharks". Plenty of American musicians/singers can live just fine without the paparazzi stalking them 24/7. That only happens when they are actively promoting something and seeking to be in the news. She also *already* has a contract with a major label, so that would rule that out as well. They would take care of her while she was here.

Singers in America tend not to be the focus of the news & paparazzi. That is usually movie stars that get that type of attention. Britney is only in the news because she is having some type of drug induced meltdown. Something I doubt Alizée would ever have to worry about.

Yikes. If I was drinking coffee/soda/water, I'd probably have spit it out. To each their own, though.

I guess people don't compare Alizée to Amy Lee because of the stark difference in vocal style and music genre. As for Jewel...she's kind of fallen out of the public eye.

Alizée and Britney actually match up fairly well on paper. Both got their start at a young age, both played up a lolita image in their early work, both were very successful in a short amount of time, both took a break and had children after releasing 2-3 albums, and both perform dance pop music.

With Britney's very public collapse, some people may forget that she was squeaky-clean (just like Alizée) for the first few years. Taking "early" Britney into consideration, I'm not at all surprised that this comparison continues to be made.

Britney is nothing but redneck trailer trash...always has been, always will be, ya'll. Alizée has more class in one of her cut finger nail shavings that the entire Spears family has as a whole.

I'm rather enjoying watching Britney melt down in public, sure beats the hell out of watching television

Sure, I was using them only for the example that you can be a famous singer here in the U.S. without being hounded by the tabloids every day of your life. You can pick any artist you want for the example. Those two just popped into my head while thinking of female singers. I'm just saying that what she may see on TV over in France (Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan) is not very representative of what happens to singers here.

True... in a sense. The differences are huge though. Alizée has a good family that she remains close with for a start. That counts for a lot. I don't know much about Britney, never followed her career. I think that her form of the "lolita" image was more.... slutty? While Alizée's "lolita" image was more innocence. Hard to put into words, but I guess you get the idea.

Alizée also seems to be very intelligent, where as Britney.... not so much.

I get the impression that you will never see Alizée in court for child abuse or negligence. She would quit making music before she would do anything to harm her daughter.

From reading the tabloids you can see that Britney has let her money and fame go to her head. Alizée on the other hand still seems to be well grounded and outgoing. She has not turned into a diva.
