"Stranger Things" and "Going Up That Hill"
If you plan on watching "Stranger Things", then don't read this post. After never really having an interest in the show, I finally brought myself to watch the first episode last month, then wound up watching all 4 seasons in a couple of weeks.
The story took place in the 80s and they used a lot of great songs from that era in the series and it really gave those songs a great boost in popularity. The one song they probably used the most was Running Up That Hill( A Deal with God) by the English singer/songwriter Kate Bush. It was released in 1985 and was a hit. It was rereleased in 2012 as a remix and had some success. So I was curious as to how much financial success, a song that was over 35 years old, could have as a result of being used in this series? This is from Yahoo news "CBS reports that, according to Luminate, the song has earned Kate about $2.3 million in streaming royalties since Stranger Things dropped (specifically between May 27 and June 23).". Not bad for an old record and I'm sure it's still earning money in streaming and in other ways too. |

All it takes is one hit song and then you can retire.
I remember reading somewhere that Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" has made her a staggering sum of money. I looked it up and Forbes estimates that it has earned her $72 million to date, plus an average of $2.5 million in royalties a year. |

I read the character Steve made about 7 million dollars from this show. I wonder how much El made?

Good question. It’s incredible what a big hit that show became! But I guess that should not be so surprising since it’s really well done.
