$500 decent NVG is still quite pour you would still be looking at Generation 1 models then lol upgrade to the newest generation (4 I believe, could be wrong on that) you are looking at at least $6,000 and about $4000 for generation 3 (I believe which) you will still have depth perception unlike most of the early models and cheap knock off NVG's

Of Course they are not going to sell military NVGs!! I don't think equipment like that is even up for sale for civilians
But some companies do make NVGs for enthusiasts. Like FRA said they are glorified toys, yet they sort of work. just don't expect Modern Warfare-esque green vision with visible laser-sight! These NVGs are usually based on IR (similar to a camera's night mode).
