Even so, it seems like the songwriter(s) needed something to fill in the gap and just stuck those in. I don't really like it...

Well, I'm sure all of us here cannot physically wait for the single to release, and I'm currently trying to hunt down the full version, which, if it existed, would be on p2p programs like e-mule, limewire, etc or maybe on torrent sites, but amazingly youtube has pirated clips more bountiful then p2p programs above. If I were you, I'd look for it too! The songs fricken amazing. It'll probably be out by next week, when the single airs on radio.

Hula hoops and popcorns was pop in the 50s and 60s just like everything else in the song.

It’s a technique in songwriting that can evoke a whole range of emotions and memories of a time and a place, simply by dropping in a few key words. I assume that’s the purpose here. For example, mentioning Martin Luther King in a song can bring forward a sense of the whole civil rights movement without using up all the verses to describe it. It’s an efficient way to address a full range of ideas and emotions.
Of course MLK is much more significant than popcorn and hula hoops. But maybe this is also the intent of the writer. By using fairly insignificant items, it serves the above stated purpose while also commenting on how shallow the period was. Of course sometimes a cigar is just a cigar…lol At least it got us thinking. I am looking forward to the rest of the album. I feel much more confident that the Alizée team did an excellent job on the music, lyrics and recorded performances. I can’t wait for the rest ! ! ! |

I believe it will be on the radio next week. At least that's what they were saying over at AFC.
