Music Recording
Hey guys!
I was wondering if anyone here could give me some information regarding musical recording. I'm sort of lost right now. Honestly, I know next to nothing about recording and any useful advice would be welcome! Thanks in advanced -Steven

Get two or three quality condenser mics, a shotgun or two for guitars... enough shotguns and condensers to properly mic up a drum set
Dedicate a room in your house, one away from windows or heaters or ACs or anything like that. If possible, hang up some heavy curtains along the walls to cut down as much echo/reverb (you can always add reverb, but not take it out) and outside noises from polluting the recording. Have all those mics wired into a decent mixing board, the Behringer XENYX X1222 looks pretty decent... For the recording itself, the mixing board can plug into your computer by legitimate audio cables (whose names escape me)(better sound) or by USB or firewire (easier, lower quality) Make sure your computer and mixing board are not in the same room as the mics (if you can help it) And lastly either pick up a good quality pair of studio monitors or good headphones. Don't use regular consumer speakers because they're designed to fudge the true sound and make it sound better than it actually is. That's about all I know.

Quote:
Where does one begin? Sound recording is a massive subject that one could write book after book about, and still not cover everything. It might be better if you ask more specific questions as it would be much easier to give you the answers you're looking for. In the mean time, I think it would be a good idea to find a good book on the subject and read it cover to cover. Take a look at some of these here.

Thank you all so much for your input!
I will try experimenting with recording and if I have any specific questions I'll be sure to leave them here.
