How representative this is I can't really say, but it looks like there were no views in Africa. It'd be great if we could get the analytics for J'en ai marre pour Laurette or ML in Amsterdam.

So there are about 55 countries in this list. There are about 194 countries in the world. It be interesting to find out if there's any countries that haven't seen her videos. Then maybe spend a few dollars to advertise through FB?
Wow, statistics like that should be public on YouTube....

However, it seems that there was South Africa [38], which is not surprising, but otherwise it looks weak in Africa...

I imagine that in North Africa, in the Arab world, Alizée could be quite relatively popular because she clearly has some fans on the Arabian Peninsula as well.

I missed that South Africa is on that list. I remember many years ago, we had a gentleman from there join the forum but he didn't post for long.

I don't know if Ske Leton counts. He was born in France, then moved to Morocco at some point. He at some point was at the Eiffel Tower when Alizee performed there, but he didn't see her then. It wasn't until he permanently moved back to France that he discovered her, later buying the dress or one like it that she wore in that performance (she had more than one).

It be interesting to look at some of the statistics over the years of how countries in the lead have shifted, at least concerning this video.

Well there are other things to consider. Back in 2003, when Alizee was probably at the height of her popularity, the USA was in a political dispute with France which caused our Congress to rename French fries to freedom fries. That type of hostility towards France could have put a big damper on media here sharing stories or her music here.

You have to look at what happened in Mexico too. They didn't find out about her at least not on a large level until Youtube became more prevalent there which was again, after her zenith year of 2003.

So it hasn't been an even distribution field and it will be interesting to look into other reasons besides the ones I mentioned as to why her popularity has gone up in down in certain countries.

I saw these comments by the same guy on YT of my Graines du Stars video. I delete negative comments but I can't tell here if what this guy is saying is good or bad. Anyone understand what he is saying?

Lol, a fitting coincidence, he’s Finnish and “messy” in many of Alizée’s videos.

[We don’t usually do that that way. ]

There are a surprising amount of visitors in these videos who don’t talk very sensibly and spam, he’s just like that, but I would say with +99% certainty (I have never seen him say anything bad about Alizée) that he likes Alizée and is probably a fan.

(I already have 50 posts, although a moment ago I thought I might never write here )

I hadn't thought about the hostility Americans had for France as impacting Alizee's career, but now that you mention it, I think that's probably a factor.

I have always believed Alizee could have done well here even though she couldn't speak English. Her beauty and charm would have made an impression. At a time when American pop had turned porno, her wholesomeness would have been unique. Some of the things that struck me as a breath of fresh air upon discovering Alizee was the devotion she had to her family, her spurning of the drug and violence culture, and her avoidance of all things vulgar. In this respect there was a vacuum in the USA that she could have filled. It's tragic, it never happened.

I've always wondered if Alizee were turned off by America. It's a lot more shabby and dark than its world image during the 50's and 60's when it stood forth as the world's great hope, the land of cultural enrichment, freedom and opportunity. She had been in New York which is a great city but not as beautiful as Paris or even London. From her photos of Hollywood, she was in some pretty shabby parts of the city. Then she had made a public statement that Ariana Grande was "vulgar" and that she doesn't like most urban music. She played Mexico but not the USA. I wonder why? And I'm disappointed.

I never understood why Americans like to bash the French so much. The Brits do the same. Maybe the root cause goes back to WWII or further back. The US does have an appetite for things French, that's for sure. It's the people they don't like. I personally have no issues. Maybe there is some jealousy involved? No matter how hard we try in the areas of food, wine, fashion, architecture, literature, etc., the French just are better.

The 2003 Alizee could have filled that vacuum in the US that you mention. The rest of the world might think that what happens in NYC and LA represents the entire country, but there are a whole bunch of people across middle America that don't share the same values as those cities and didn't like the record labels abusing them with the likes of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilara. But the labels have the big bucks and they promote who they want to promote, and sadly Alizee didn't have a chance here.

I thought maybe she would have had a chance in the French speaking provinces of Canada, but that didn't happen either. Of all places in the Americas, it was Mexico that came to the rescue, otherwise it would have been a total bust for Alizee across the pond. The US sure did miss out.

Red face

^Personally, I don’t think Alizée would have lost the opportunity because of that “anger” because she is Alizée.

But usually the French can have a hard time succeeding in the US / North America because of that, so they don’t even try it.

This got me interested as to why the French might think they have no chance in the US. I found some statistics that are interesting. At least to me.

As you know, most of the US population have their heritage from somewhere else. Most bring their traditions with them and still have some emotional ties to their home countries, and if they are recent immigrants, still might use their native language in their home. They most likely would be interested in the news of their home country as well as the sports figures and celebrities.

Only 2.6% of the US population has a French ancestry. Compare that to Germany, which comprises a surprisingly large 14.4% of the population. The majority of the French population are in three states far in the northeast US (Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont) that border the French Canadian provinces. The other significant pocket of French population is centered around the city of New Orleans in the state of Louisiana, which makes sense because it was a French territory in the past. Everywhere else the French population is spread pretty thin.

Mylene took Alizee to New York City, which is only 0.8% French heritage.

So as beautiful and sexy and talented that Alizee was and is, the odds were very much against her making it in the US. If she was able to speak English with some fluency, she might have had a chance being promoted as an "exotic" singer. It is my understanding that Mylene had Alizee start English classes, but that had stopped somewhere along the way.

Had her take English classes? Didn't Alizée learn English at school? Or did she have her take 'extra' classes - to improve upon her pronounciation and fluency?

I'm fairly sure it wasn't in a school because she was too busy with her career to attend school so it had to be either on line classes of more likely with a tutor.
