I suspect you led a more sheltered life than I did as a child of the inner city, growing up in a neighborhood keenly portrayed by my homies in the following video. We did not have a vast, no-charge, layman-accessible Internet to "Google" when we wanted the answers to questions adults were too uncomfortable to discuss, so instead we turned to other kids. In a city, you can live within walking distance of hundreds of thousands of people and it is really hard to keep secrets. The problem, of course, was accuracy, rather than accessibility. By the time the second graders heard what the ninth graders who told the eighth graders who told the seventh graders, etc. said, things got quite mangled. I guess iPods now obviate that problem if the Internet is off-limits.
