Does anyone else run into this with French music?

Well, they're pronounced in very similar ways. Because of the m'in after the qui in the french, it sounds very similar to keep. M'in sounds like my when pronounced differently, and disposent sounds sorta dispaws, which sounds like distance.

I've made much more awkward confusions than that...

When I first heard L'e-mail a des ailes I thought the last line in the chorus sounded like "Cause somebody made me key some mailer". I know it doesn't make sense, but that's what it sounded like to me.

Once you get a phrase like that stuck in your head, its hard to hear the real words.

Off topic, The Go-Go's had a big hit in the early 80's called "Our Lips are Sealed", but apparently that sounded a lot like "Alex the Seal" and, in a documentary, they talked about how fans in some country (I think Australia) would be screaming "Play 'Alex the Seal'!" at their concerts (and I guess thought that was indeed the name of the song, perhaps?)
