illegal or legal Alizée?
So I have started to become paranoid about house raids and everything, especially with the rumored version of Windows 7 SP1 with the FBI scanning your files for illegal stuff.
I was wondering if someone could tell me what is illegal: 1)Alizee Videos whether it be a TV Performance, music video, or interview. 2)Alizee Pictures whether it be common ones or ones that have the copyright sign on it with the name of who took it or the site it was posted on. 3)Old Alizee music whether it be Gourmandises, En Concert, or MCE Thanks

Dude, dont worry about it. The only people who get busted are big time pirates who download and then sell this stuff.
To answer your questions, (Im just guessing on these so take this with a grain of salt) 1. official music videos, yes. all others, no 2. pictures, no 3. all official music, definitely yes, even if its ten years old

I'm pretty sure "the man" won't be checking to see who has pirated Alizée

Well, if he ripped the music from the disc directly, is that illegal? I'm sure it's not, is it? As for videos, they are most likely illegal, because they were ripped without permission most likely. Any En Concert footage is definitely illegal, because it is a copywrighted DVD, with an anti-piracy warning at the start. It is doubtful you will get in trouble, though. Not impossible, doubtful. I wouldn't worry, unless you have a 4 terabyte memory full to burst with songs and videos. As for pictures, as long as you don't claim to be the photographer, you should be okay. But I am no expert on media laws, so this may be completely wrong. Remember that most of all!

Good point, jalen! As an artist not (yet) released in America, her stuff is not something they would find easily. They don't do a google type search for specific artists, but they would most likely ignore a small time Alizée downloader in favor of someone who has a ton of stuff from high profile American artists, that they can get more charges on. I could ask my aunt, a cop, what she thinks. No, i'm not snitching on anybody, she hasn't been on the force too long, and is really cool. She might be able to give a better answer.

Who they are after are the people making available for download copyrighted material. Like the guy that posted Alizée's new album up on the net within two hours of it being available for download for those of us that bought the Deluxe Box Set. Obviously the person who posted it bought the Box Set.
It isn't going to be hard to track down to a handful of people who the person is. There is an ISP address that goes with that download. So if the original up loaders ISP is out of Manchester England. And lets say three sets were sold to Fans in Manchester. You have it down to those three individuals. Lets say instead the ISP comes back to Concord NH and you sold only one box set in Concord. You have them nailed to the cross as they say. It was stupidity for anyone to upload a very limited edition since there is a list of everyone who bought it. I hope Alizée's people go after this individual and bill him 85€ for every download to the 30th and 20€ for each download for the next eight weeks after the CD came out.

As of this date Win7 SP1 (and other versions of Windows) are planning to have that spyware you read about in the "Off Topic" section installed into it but by the time it comes out everyone will probably know about it and there will be a fix. It may (by then) be even taken out if the public complains about it. Yes, you can legally make a copy or rip your own music CDs for personal use as long as you don't share them or give the MP3s away. NO, you "can not" legally make a copy of DVDs even for personal use. The "Millennium Digital Copyright Act" makes it illegal to reverse engineer copy protection, which is what you'd have to do to copy DVDs. It's strange because you can copy CDs for personal use but that was decided by the US Supreme Court in 80s or 90s, I can't remember which. Technically, it's illegal to own any music videos or photos that you didn't personally buy or produce unless the producer gives them to you. Of course, you have the right to watch them via YouTube or other sites IF they were posted by the producer for such a purpose. Now, that being said.. they are not going to be looking for your Alizée videos or photos, they're going to be looking for illegal underage porn, illegal cracked programs, terrorist related stuff, etc. Will they have the technology to look for your Alizée videos? Yes, but they haven't the resources to spend on that stuff nor does the government really care about Alizée so they will concentrate their efforts looking for the really bad stuff. Besides, some singers such as Alizée and Susan Boyle hope you keep downloading or watching their videos. In Alizée's case.. Mexico came via YouTube and Susan Boyle the World (originally) came from fan postings and then YouTube. In other words.. keep intrusion in the back of your mind but don't be paranoid. Hope this helps. Last edited by another_alizee_fan; 04-03-2010 at 02:48 AM.. |
