Default Wisdom Teeth

I just had them removed and they hurt like a bitch. I'm basically in tears from the pain.

Has anyone experienced this and do you have any suggestions?

When I had that operation my dentist gave me a prescription for Tylenol 3 (heavy on the codeine). That worked well. Talk to your dentist, tell him/her what you're going through, and ask for a prescription for a really good painkiller. Sometimes these guys are too reluctant to prescribe the good stuff because most of it's opiate-based and potentially addictive, but this is exactly the time for it.

Good luck.

When I got mine removed they gave me some heavy painkillers but I only used them the first day or two.

When I got mine removed I had icepacks on my face and also had pain killers which the doctor gave me.

Thanks guys, I had some soup and pineapple juice, took one painkiller pill, and took a nap (which my teacher recommended to me as a natural anti-inflammatory), and I feel 100% better.

I had all 4 taken out at once. I lived off pudding and ice cream for 2 weeks. Not fun.

Tylenol 3

TYLENOL 3

this stuff is powerful
you'll sleep like a baby and dream about Alizee
will completely forget about your wisdom teeth

had all four taken out at once and it helped a lot

btw does anybody know why we have wisdom teeth?

it's the 64,000 dollar question of the day

and no cheating i.e. no wikipedia/google or whatever

Thanks for the suggestions, though I tend to stray from pharmaceutical treatments!

From what I've heard, it wasn't uncommon for our ancestors to lose a permanent tooth (specifically molars) every once in a while due to the much harsher diet they followed. Thus, kind of like the rows of teeth sharks have, wisdom teeth would drift forward and replace the lost tooth.

Though I'm no expert, so this could just be an urban myth.

That's one of the theories Toc de Mac, the other I've heard is that our pre-human ancestors (H. erectus) who invented the use of fire, evolved eating raw foods and so had larger jaws and more and bigger teeth. Over time after the invention of fire, these powerful chompers were lost in favor of a more mobile mouth better at speech, and wisdom teeth are a vestigial remnant of our evolutionary past.
