I lived in Italy for more than three years and have visited the major European cities (Rome, Milan, Venice, Paris, Frankfurt, Salzburg, Geneva, etc.) at least a couple of times. Europeans, in general, tend to dress more casually (no jeans and t-shirt) even when going to a mall or market. The same is true even in smaller cities. You wouldn't see them dressed like people at Wal-Mart or other malls.

I can't wait until I move to NYC. I live in the south and I see people wearing their PJ pants and slippers out in public.

Totally know what you mean...but it still happens in upstate new york and in fact, all states in the US. It just depends where ya hang around in each state.
