The power of Psychédélices lies more in the lyrics than in the music, which is why it's one of the least popular songs from the album among Americans. Most of whom don't understand French.

Those lyrics aren't easy French, either, which is why I originally ranked it my second-least favorite song from the album, even though I do understand French moderately well. I had to really dig into the lyrics, not just translating them but understanding all the nuances and deep references, before I could appreciate the song properly.

Musically, I still think it's weaker than Par les paupieres, Lilly Town, Lonely liste, 50/60, Mademoiselle Juliette, Decollage, Mon Taxi Driver, or Idealiser, but the power of the poetry makes up for that.

Well, Deep, we'll just have to disagree on this point. I rank it 2nd after Par les paupières musically; I really do love its music. I can chalk up the comparisons to the songs you mention to just differences in taste, but Décollage?... musically?... seriously? Don't get me wrong, I like Décollage. But in my opinion it needs more, well... music, to try to really compare it musically to any of the others (except maybe Mon maquis).

I like a song with emotional power, which comes from rhythm, range, and some other things harder to define. For that reason, I tend not to like jazz very much, which is more intellectual and show-offy rather than passionate; jazz often resonates well with musicians, who can see and hear how difficult it is to play well and so how impressive really good jazz musicians are; however, on a soul level rather than a brain level it's simply not very moving. Psychédélices is the same except without even the virtuosity. It hits me with the emotional force of a tepid bath. Sorry, but that's just the truth. I had to appreciate the poetry of it to learn to like it.

UEDS overall is better than Psych which only had 4 good songs and the rest were fillers, La Candida is a weak Spanish song and she could have chosen a better Spanish song.

At this *particular* point in time, UEDS because it is new, but I voted for Psych because the technical end was more impressive and it is the Alizee I prefer to the newer one. I think with better "sounds" (i.e. better drum beats, and different instruments) UEDS could have been much better. I actually think a lot of the songwriting may be of better quality on UEDS. I actually think my favorite is Grand Central (despite originally voting for Eden), that song is absolutely brilliant, especially the second half where she's just singing la la's and that kind of thing. I think that honestly tops anything off of Psychedelices.
