Aaron, what's that green stuff growing all behind you?

oh yeh, as for the "Changing of Alizée: yay or nay?" -
A lot of very good points have been brought up on this thread, points that made me ponder.

Damn those unicorns are cute.

Scruffy and others recently reminded us how important "image" is these days. Madonna, Gaga, and other examples were produced.

And then it hit me - most of us here say we like or prefer Alizée because she's real, not just "an image" like those others.

But isn't it a whole lot easier to go out in public when you can hide behind an "image"? An elaborate costume? A big, funny wig and giant sunglasses, even a phony british accent? Dress in a Viking costume or a torpedo bustier (your choice) and it doesn't matter who you are, you can do anything!!!

And of course, if the critics "hate" you, then they're not really hating you, it's the image that's got to be updated. Easy!

But what does Lili have, if her earlier "image" was based on being fresh and sweet and "real"?

Deepwaters said, "She has to find herself, find who she is musically and as a performer." Except I think that she has found herself. She's standing or sitting right there where she is, and she doesn't even need a gps. She has family and friends and a beautiful city, so she's good. And good for her!

But she also realizes that the paparazzi love "outrageous" a lot more than "wholesome", and so it only makes sense. To court the public eye, she to be a bit more daring in couture and personal adornments. And take more risks. And perhaps she's developing some new "image" to help market the next release?

Who knows. But Rev mentioned that this next album might be Alizée's "last shot", a theory that had been tossed around this forum before. (We were saying that way back when UEDS was a gonna come out, 'member, pa?) I don't believe that anymore. Exhibit A:

Françoise Hardy started recording in 1961. One of her earlier hits was this song, you may recognize from Enfoirés:
<iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/MXWfb1PpmbQ?rel=0" allowfullscreen="" width="420" frameborder="0" height="315"></iframe>

But the funkiest thing is SHE'S STILL GOING STRONG TODAY! http://www.francoise-hardy.com/ (AND STILL GORGEOUS, TOO imo) Another fascinating person. From France. Weird. (Alizée could easily pwn Francoise in kickboxing, sure, but there is that 40 year diff...)

What I mean is, there's always a market for class. A class act. A "classy" image. Classic. People don't say that about JLo, but they'll probably be saying that about AJ for decades to come.

I wasn't.

Shee needs this one to be at least marginally sucesful in France, or very sucessful elsewhere, and she needs to be able to have at least a few concerts in Europe. If she can't, then there is a good chance that she will eventually not be invited to L.E. and, without that exposure, some of the other opportunities that she has recently had may no longer appear.

I hope I'm wrong. She could always pull a rabbit out of a hat. However, unless she is growing rabbits in her backyard (by this I mean that one of her activites and/or connections lands her on a TV show of some kind, or something similar), she HAS to be at least moderately sucessful with this album if she is going to maintain momentum.

What she really needs is a really good song, for the first time since PLP. Maybe something like this one?
