Hehe, when I was in Highschool, 1996-2000, our French text-books had a couple pages dedicated to the Minitel and its uses. It was taught to us as basically a French form of the internet, though obviously that is not entirely accurate.

It started back in 1982 and had nothing to do with the internet of course.

I realise that, but it was mentioned in the class an example of network technology being adopted early on before the www existed. The wikipedia article you linked to says it was deployed in several other countries too.

Also many other French artists have rather limited and modest websites just following templates by their record labels.
ooo never thought of that. so true!! what would the new domain be?

i think you own a domain for 10 years or something like that, so i dont think moi-alizee.com is coming back up especially if Boutonnat owns it.

There was minitel networks outside France, too. Especially in the countries next to France. But yea, it was mostly used in France.

But even the States had their own version of it. Never popular, tho.

And even if someone didn't have it, it should be known since it's part of the computer history. It's just as important as BBSes or internet.
