And you forgot to mention an important thing - which came as a surprise to me when I visited there for the first time a couple decades ago. The sidewalks are more full of respirator-assisted elderly people who are being pushed on wheelchairs than even the biggest Miami-area retirement community! Who does... sniffle? Does anyone know if Atlantic City really has a place to match a Vegas hotel as a show venue? Alizée loves the shore and there was even a Jacotey living there a century ago! P.S. Has anyone yet found the "s" which fell off from the thread title? |

There are a couple of decent sized venues. Although nothing to match Celine's palace.

Keeping it classy in Las Vegas: teaching genteel manners...

No matter what city she were in, I would go ANYWHERE in the US to see her perform here. Having said that, I also believe that Las Vegas is a bit low-brow for her. New york MIGHT work, but she would have trouble making a good crowd there, because she would be competing with shows that are actually popular in America. Despite the fact that she is utterly amazing, she has no reputation here. Well, except us, of corse. But People vacationing in New York would simply disregard her show in favor of one they know of. And besides, America overall is just too xenophobic to appreciate her anyways. Sigh... Sometimes, I hate Americans...

I couldn't vote in the poll because I don't gamble in casinos. However, if Alizée did a show in Las Vegas I would certainly go. It's not that far for me, since I live in northern California.
While I don't gamble in casinos, if she wanted to get a poker game going after the concert I'd join in. She might even provide me with a challenge, from what I hear. About the marriage in Vegas, the question is why they bothered at all, other than that it was a whim, you know, they were visiting anyway, it was there, it's kind of a tradition, why not? The marriage isn't legal where they live and she tried to keep it a complete secret. Fans snooped out the marriage license records, is the only reason anyone knows about it.

The way Mexico has taken to supporting Alizée, fans aplenty seemingly thereof, that is, I wouldn't be too surprised if somehow or another South Padre Island might just be a venue wherein Alizée might just be tempted to perform. This along with many other bands/singers that are around that area, east of Brownsville, Texas, near the border, that are Latino and are aware of Alizée as well, perhaps. Something near to what she did on her Mexican tour? That'd be the place I'd consider more than any other in the North American continent (read: north of the Rio Grande). Something like: http://www.yujufest.com She may feel more save there; like, amongst friends more familiar than those that aren't into her style or never heard of her that just go around saying WTF; in other words, those that haven't noticed how angelic she is.
In other words, her apprehension of performing in America, in my opinion, may be in order, and/or reminds me of, to avoid what has happened to various Japanese female singers since the late fifties into the mid-sixties, at least, that have been patronized in their own home country, like The Peanuts for instance, but upon releasing Albums/Singles in America and performing as well in America, just didn't seem to capture the same enthusiasm; a fear of failure as well as failure itself can be devastating to a young career. But then again, who knows, she may just show up in Quebec as well sometime. Don't know why she hasn't yet. Comsidering that she'd be more accepted in another French speaking country,..O.K. province, that is, than in Japan. At least I would think so. But what do I know. Vegas was good enough for Mireille Mathieu!
I thought I would excerpt some relevant text from the Wikipedia article on Mireille Mathieu, whom I had the pleasure to hear sing in person during 1985. I must confess that I really wasn't aware of her stature as a singer at that time.
Mireille Mathieu (born July 22, 1946) is a French chanteuse. She has achieved great success in France, as well as becoming an international superstar... After a television performance in 1965, and a debut run at the Paris Olympia, she was hailed as another Édith Piaf because of her haunting voice... With hit after hit, she soon toured Canada and the United States... in Las Vegas, she sang with Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra to great applause... Still much in demand, she continues to perform regularly. She travels frequently, appearing at such venues as New York City's Carnegie Hall, the Sport Palace in Montreal, Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles and Ice Palace of Saint Petersburg... She has sold about 150 million copies of her albums in her forty-year career, and recorded about 1200 songs in nine languages.
