AI Generated Songs for Alizée

I've been both fascinated yet somewhat fearful of the advancement of AI. I've resisted the temptation of trying out the OpenAI platforms. I read an article on how two people had used two OpenAI platforms to generate rap song lyrics and to feed it into another platform that used the voice of Drake and Eminem to create a new song. They did not release it commercially (because that would be against the law) but posted on social networks. Apparently you could not distinguish it from the real thing.

So that got me thinking about seeing if ChatGPT could write some lyrics for new Alizée songs. It knew who Alizée was and could identify details about her music library.

I then asked it to generate some lyrics for a new song that Alizée would sing, and it generated the following (in English):

Lost and alone, I'm drifting away
Trying to find the light in a cloudy day
I'm searching for meaning, a reason to stay
In this endless cycle, day by day

Chorus:
But I know that I'll find my way
With my heart set on fire, I won't sway
I'll keep on dancing to my own beat
And nothing can stop me, no defeat

Verse 2:
I'm breaking free from the chains that bind
Leaving the past and the hurt behind
I'm taking a chance, a leap of faith

Thinking that it sounded like lyrics for a ballad, I wanted to see how it could do generating lyrics for a song that she could sing and dance to while performing. Something a little more upbeat. It came back with the following:

Let's turn up the music, unguarded
I feel the rhythm deep in my soul
And I can't help but lose control

Chorus:
My feet are moving to the beat
My body's free, I feel the heat

I'm gonna sing my song

I tried a few more variations, some with French lyrics. You only get 10 message for free every 24 hours so I stopped.

There are AI platforms now where you can generate any kind of music style you want, generate lyrics and now deep fake voices. Songs of the future might be completely AI generated and this actually makes me quite sad.

The lyrics generated I feel are generic and pretty predictable. Absolutely no "soul". Or at least that is my opinion. What do you think?

Now that my curiosity has been kindled, I went to OpenAI to see if it can do better than ChatGPT. This time, I asked for lyrics to a rap song, this time about Alizee. I did not ask any questions at all about her on this session prior to the lyrics. I just wanted to see how well it would do. It actually did pretty good.

From her hit songs to her dance routines
She's a star that shines brighter than beams

She's a queen that we all admire

Not bad. Certainly not James Taylor material but not bad. Maybe in a few more years, we won't need human song writers and with their intelligence, plagiarism should be a thing of the past.

I think what stood out is that many words and phrases it put in the lyrics are often used to describe Alizee by her fans, even posted here in AAm.

Incredibly accurate. Je ne sais quoi, stunning beauty, killer smile are words I've often used to describe her.

With the exception of the first line, they seem like very generic descriptors that could be applied to any singer that you wanted to praise.

The first line seems like a generic descriptor that could be applied to any female French celebrity that you wanted to praise.

Although they apply to Alizee, these lyrics are not specific to Alizee.

There are some limitations that apply when asking for lyrics because of the necessity to rhyme. I hadn't tried it on other performers.

If the AI platforms have a song "template" stored and merely gets some facts from a Wiki search and drops words in, then it's not AI at all and would prove that the technology has not improved over the last 25 years and we are being fooled.

If it's true AI and did not know anything about Alizee, it would consume essentially the universe of knowledge available about her and form an opinion. While that probably includes Wiki, but also social media, articles, video titles and comments, etc. Whether it does or not (or at least tries) remains a mystery. We will probably never know what is in that black box.

Why would I be offended? I didn't write them.

I said it did pretty good for rap, because I don't set a high standard for rap lyrics and basically don't listen to it.
