Sensuality isn’t what she’s going for
Paris. The Corsican singer has worked with her husband, Jérémy Chatelain, for her new album (“Psychédélices”), which releases December 3rd. -Alizée, for your new album you work with your husband, Jérémy Chatelain. Did he put his career on hold for you? -I had to at least ask him. That is to say, I think he prefers producing things for others. At the moment, he’s making a lot of music. He tries to satisfy the many requests he receives. For my album, he helped me a lot to make the album go where I wanted it to. -A duet between you, is it possible? -That’s never been planned. -That’s kind of funny, isn’t it? -It’s just that we don’t want to make people laugh -Your daughter, Annily, is two and a half years old. What does she think of her mom’s music? -It’s hard to ask her opinion. She knows her mom sings, and she listens to what we listen to at home. I’ve noticed that she gets her groove on a bit. -What do you listen to? -A huge number of different things. Gorillaz, Gwen Stefani, The Killers, Daft Punk… and of course, I’m a faithful fan of Madonna. -What has motherhood brought for you? -Only happiness. It’s a parcel of responsibilities, but at the same time, a child helps you put everything in perspective. Me, it helps me always look at the bright side of life. -Mylène Farmer, with whom your collaborated at your start, has she given you her opinion on the new CD? -She received the album, yes. Exactly what was her reaction, I will keep to myself. -Why did you decide not to collaborate any more with her and Laurent Boutonnat? -At the end of my tour in 2004, I thought a lot. I had a desire discover new horizons. My old producers understood well. I was 20 years old and had to see new things. At the same time, I hadn’t steered anything in my past. With my old producers, I was at a good school. I filled myself up with their universe and, for this new album, I took inspiration from what I learned. -In the video “Mademoiselle Juliette,” there’s a sort of Sapphic sensuality. Were you looking for that? -Sensuality, it’s a genre of things I don’t think about too much. For this album, it wasn’t a key word, at any rate. Now, it’s up to each person to find their own story. We wanted to see the ideal life between Romeo and Juliet from a different angle. In our concept, Juliet doesn’t want to bother with Romeo, and prefers to have fun with her friends. The song is an invitation to party. -What do you think of the reprise of “Moi Lolita” by Julien Doré? -I tell myself it’s necessary to listen to Alain Bashung. That is to say, it’s easy to redo successes. Now, this young man needs to prove himself. Pascal Pellegrino

Thanks Cooney for the translation.
I think Alizee shares our view that Alizee & Jeremy duet would be funny! |

Thanks, Cooney.
On the first question, I believe "Il faudrait le lui demander" should probably be "it would be necessary to ask him" or "you would have to ask him," rather than "I had to ask him." (There's no je or moi in there anywhere.) I think I would also translate "Cela dit" in this case as "however" rather than "that is to say," although the latter is more literally accurate. So I would make it: "You would have to ask him. However, I believe that he prefers to produce [music] for others." Meaning essentially, no, he didn't put his career on hold because writing music for others is his career. (LOL maybe they should consider doing a comic duet.) That's a more -- um -- candid and perhaps revealing assessment of Julien Dore than I've seen her present before. Reading between the lines, I'm getting, "It's a pile of crap, but I have to take it as comedy and as flattering to me just the same."

Wow, that's pretty harsh, but it's exactly what needs to be said. Thank you, Alizée.

I'd say that was a very conscise yet insightful interview. I was glad we got to hear I little more about Jérémy.
You GO girl! Spoken like a professional.

She did seem unusually candid in that interview. And the lack of any comment about Mylenes opinion is also telling.

Her comment about not disclosing what Mylene's thought about the CD is interesting. Hmmm....i wonder.

Good trans Cooney. Wow, we're getting to know the real Alizee. See, I always thought Lili could handle herself. Seems as these interviews happen, she gains more confidence in how to handle her business.
You Go Lili...Work it...work it girl...ah hugh.
