Help me improve my French.
Hello.
I have studied French on and off for about a year solid now, but I am still very insecure when it comes to the grammatical rules; whether I should use 'C'est' or 'Il est' (Tutorial for the actual thing that I read) and things of the like are merely a chance to me. I'll cut right to the chase, I have been writing a little bit of an "essay" on France, if you so wish, because I would consider the best way to practice grammar is in a text. However, I am off-school because of a schedule where I am going to be working nights and it would put too much strain on me to do both, so my teacher is to no aid here. I am hoping some linguistic or native-French person would be able to tell me where I've done wrong in the following little paragraph (I started on it recently, I will expand it as the days go).
I don't get the meaning of the last sentence. By the way, french population is now 65 millions. It's less than Germany.

The last sentence was me trying to say that France is famous for its fashion, cheese, perfumes, wine, and that the French are often considered gourmets by other countries. Apparently I didn't do well, and I hate using Google Translate for sentences and not for words.. If it isn't too much to ask, would you kindly help me constructing a sentence like that, and take a look in what I wrote a little on today? Blue is new stuff. (I also changed it to 65 million, no idea where I got the 40 from.. To be accurate I also changed it to be "around" 20%, because it says with suburbs there are 11 million citizens.. Come to think of it, I don't know why I have such an obsession for detail! ) Thank you again.
