Yes I live in NYC ... about 300 feet from the evacuation zone (since my house is on a hill) so we dont have to evacuate.
However I leave to go west to Buffalo tomorrow morning for the start of school. Best of luck to everyone, stay safe!

I'm in NY as well...this has been on the news nonstop all day today. They've already evacuated a lot of people in areas like Rockaway where it's close to the oceans and such. People have been filling up on gas so much that most stations here state that they only have premium/super left. This might be a marketing ploy though, who knows?
I think I'm in a slightly safer area, although I'll probably still get flooding. I hope it weakens by the time it actually gets here. It was a Category 4 in the beginning...then it got bumped to 3 and was at 2 at some point. Category 4 would be pretty damn scary. To put things in perspective: Katrina was a 3... I probably won't make it to work on Monday.

I dont think its marketing, just like with the earthquake a few days ago ... we here up north are not used to this which is why people are more worried. Me personally im not worried for my house structurally but im worried about my family's cars (getting scratches and dents from flying debris), windows on my house breaking, as well as the brand new roof my parents bought for my house getting messed up; also im worried about some minor water damage in my basement even though im not in the flood zone..... ya know the minor things! Besides these little things that are most likely covered my insurance and will just cause mild inconvenience; I think all will be fine! Yeah it keeps getting bumped down; hopefully it keeps losing steam! Right now I think is a category 2 and by the time it reaches us here in NY it will be a 1.
