Default Corse Matin Article

Corse Matin, the Corsican news site, shared this article on Facebook.

This summer, they will be having a light show in Ajaccio on the walls of the Citadel that tells the story of Napoleon.

"Throughout the summer, from June 26 to September 30, a sound and light show will be played in the heart of the citadel."

Alizée sang a song about Napoleon called Tempête. Maybe Alizée could sing Tempête at a few of these shows!

That is pretty cool stuff! If Alizée was going to sing at one of those shows, I might just have to stop in, that's if the travel bans get lifted.

I'm surprised more people don't see the great opportunity here. They are going to be having this light show which is a tribute to Napoleon almost all summer long. Alizée's song Tempete was a tribute to Napoleon. It seems like it would be such a natural thing for her to sing it at some of the shows. The possibility of that happening would be much higher if some of her fans go to that Corse-Matin post and suggest it.

There is a fly in the ointment though. Genoa sold the Republic of Corsica to France in the 18th century. France then sent troops to island to take over their new acquisition and a lot of Corsicans died in the fighting. There are still very strong feelings of nationalism in Corsica and I would be surprised if there isn't some trouble this summer. I wonder how Alizée would feel about that situation. I think she feels strongly about being Corsican, but not so much about being French.

I've done some study of Corsican culture in the past and yes, they are very nationalistic and proud of their heritage. I think the culture is more closely tied to Italy than France, maybe because of the many years they were under Roman rule. I agree that Alizee is proud of being Corsican. I think she felt a bit like a fish out of water during her years in Paris and missed home. I'll go so far to say that prior to marrying Greg, them settling down in Corsica was a non-negotiable requirement.

I wonder what would have happened if Greg had said no to living in Corsica. Would Alizee have still married Greg, or would she have told him to pound sand?

Interesting question. It probably depends on the circumstances. If Greg had said he plays an important part in his parents dance studio and he needs to be there for their sake, she might have understood a good reason, but if he said "Nah, no way I'm moving to Corsica!", then he probably would have been left with the sand option.
