21 has bigger meaning in the USA. It's not just about the alcohol.

But yes, why do she speak about it ? Maybe we will never know... The interview is so badly cut that it's hard to make any sense to it. Maybe they were talking about some American (or something related to them) but it was cut off, and only this bit was left.

Bigger than what? Eighteen is a more important age than 21 in the US, since Americans are considered legal adults at 18. Off the top of my head, the only significance I can attach to 21 is alcohol. At 18, one can vote, fight in the military, have sex, as well as some of the other activities mentioned elsewhere in this thread.

(Btw, Cooney: the smoking age has been raised to 19. At least it has in NJ - I'm not sure if that is federally regulated or not).

Well, what I have noticed it's celebrated often in America. Maybe it's about alcohol only then. And maybe Lili mistakenly thought too it might have bigger meaning.

Unless someone can come up with better meaning for Lili's comment...

That's actually just a NJ thing. The federal requirement is still only 18.
