Facebook question??

As a bloke of a certain age i readily admit that i'm new to (and somewhat confused by) the whole social networking and Facebook thing?
I logged on this morning and someone has 'Poked' me?
What does this mean?
What is the normal response supposed to be? It sounds sort of 'Gay'??
Help!!!!

Whoever poked you wants to remind you that they exist, basically.

There is a concept called a "poke war", where two parties continually poke each other back and forth, and whoever fails to poke the other one back loses.

I think the whole thing is retarded.

The only way I can see the poke feature being of any amusement is if you had a friend named Ahontas.

Yes. Extremely stupid.

I'm not sure but I believe it is based off something weeaboos do to break silence. Stalker did it twice to me before I flipped shit. Just standing there and all of a sudden a finger in my kidney and a retarded voice meeking out "poke" as if it's cute.

And also, I think you can poke someone only when you're friends with them.
