Hypothetical question; Who do you save?

Alizee or your sister? Substitute mother or father or brother if you do not have a sister.

Alizee and your sister are in the ocean near the beach, they are both caught in a riptide. A current of water is dragging them both out to deeper water.

There is no lifeguard around, in fact only you are around on the beach to save them, nobody else around for miles. Also there is no lifesaving device on the beach to help them, just you and your swimming skills Who do you rescue first? Who do you swim to first?

Alizee and your sister are desperately struggling to stay afloat in the water and they are both reaching out their hands to you.

Hurry, they are both about to drown!

OMG, this is just a nightmare scenario. I would automatically swim to Alizee and rescue her leaving my sister to fend for herself while I dragged Alizee back to the beach.

If my sister was still alive I would swim out to her and drag her in. Then the real nightmare would begin... explaining to my sister why I didn't swim to her first.

I would tell them to swim parallel to the beach, usually you can get out of it that way....so I would be able to save both...and I wouldn't swim out there, I'd call 911 from my cell phone

I'd do whatever it takes to save Both my sister AND Alizee...if it means giving my life in the process.

I don't choose favorites when it comes to saving lives; which is what this very DEMENTED question implies.

(Alizee > 1 trillion other people on earth?)

Alizée is most likely a strong swimmer. So am I. My sister isn't.

So: Alizée and I would save my sister together. Problem solved.

MiamMiam gave the best answer. I've been caught in a few riptides. Not fun but it is possible as long as the swimmer doesn't panic.

But if I'm understanding this scenerio, the question comes down to 'Who would I risk my life to save?' My sister.

Alright, so Alizée grew up in a town by the sea and aparently loves the water and is very fit due to dancing, I'm sure she's a very strong swimmer. But, given the question, I would probably swim for Alizée first and then to my sister - Alizée is more important to the overall happiness of mankind.

How sick are we? I would save Alizee first as well. I do not have a sister and do not care much for my brother so it may be easier for me.

It's a horrible hypothetical situation but one which is real and has happened for some people. Toughest decision you could ever come across in your entire life and you only got a split second to decide.

I guess choosing the younger person would be the best option in every case.
