I saw that ages ago when I read the book. I want to see the first movie and I think that the second one looks dumb. I also want to buy the book to have my own copy.

I saw the remake 3 yrs ago...very dark/disturbing. I imagine the original and the book were much more so.

I don't think that the book was disturbing at all. It was a little strange but it's difficult to describe since there is nothing to compare it with.

Really? Hmm...I would have thought the remake would have been toned down, or something.
You didn't find it disturbing that a father was sleeping with his daughter? Or was the relationship different in the book?

HH isn't father of Lola. He is just step father, who married Lola's mom just to be around Lo. Lo was her passion all the time.

I must have missed the beginning of the movie. Anyway, I still remember thinking the version with Dominique Swain was disturbing.

Well yeah, any story about Pedophilia is gonna be disturbing (even Dominique Swain looks too old for the part)... but what the remake losses is a lot of the humor from the book. The Kubrick film has that, but also radically changes the plot around, so there isn't really any good movie version of this story. The novel is one of the greatest works of modern literature, the movies are... just ok.
