Default Compilation: Les Couvertures d'Alizée

After several days of hunting, my journey is complete; LCA is complete, that is. It has the highest quality versions I could find of Alizée's six live performances, and the album art is my first photoshop job ever!

At the moment, you can grab either the individual songs or a zip file of the whole album here:
http://www.freewebtown.com/elispiro/index.html
Hopefully nothing will go wrong with the site.

Enjoy!

  1. Ma Prere
  2. Ella Elle L'a
  3. Il Jouait Du Piano Debout
  4. L'Important C'est D'Aimer
  5. La Isla Bonita
  6. For Me, Formidable

Nice work, but I notice all of these are Mp3s. The problem with that is in most cases it means they're re-encoded from the video, where they'd be in mp2 or ac3 format. That always results in loss of quality. Here's my collection of covers, ripped straight from the best clips without any encoding (except for Ma Prere, which is from nidalizee), hence higest possible quality... Though maybe not compatible with all players (I use MPC and VLC):

Great stuff! The only one I didn't keep was 'For Me, Formidable', I don't think it's her style...
Also, I just thought I would let you know, the link to the zip doesn't seem to work, it kept on bringing me the the Freewebtown homepage (Which by the way, Firefox says is a suspected forgery ).
Anyways, thanks for posting this up!

While it's true that they are encoded from the videos, I encoded them to 192kbps rather than 128, the the loss should be minimized.

And SpeedShift, For Me, Formidable is actually one of my favourite songs, even among Alizée's albums. Maybe youll like it more if you see the video:

What do you guys think of the not-so-impressive cover? How could I improve it?

Ok, well I'm not gonna be one of those audiophile Nazis and say that's wrong. Music is subjective, so if it sounds good to you that's all that matters. But I don't like Mp3s at any bitrate, and if I do use them I try to stick with 320kps. But then in this case the files sizes would be larger than the originals anyway, and the quality still worse, so no point really.

Heh, one of the most insane items I saw in the Virgin Megastore in Paris was this box set of 26 Charles Aznavour CDs in the shape of the Arc de triomphe. Over a thousands bucks, lol! Always reminded me of this song though.

Since yuo aren't gonna be... I'll be... 192kbps mp3 SUCKS ASS.

Seriously... why to re-encode them in the first place since they are perfectly fine in their original format. If you must re-encode them to same format, then atleast you lossless format (wav, flac, whatever...). Or if you must encode to mp3 then atleast use highest possible bitrate like Snatcher said. It minimizes the damage (but does not fully prevent it. Every time re-encoding to lossy format is done, some of the data is gone forever...).

And that Arc de triumph box was pretty cool...

The video is why I dislike the song so much. Every time I listen to the music I see Alizée in that stiff suit with that hideous hairdo... Not one of my favorite performances.
EDIT: 'Il Jouait Du Piano Debout' is my favorite out of this set.

I appreciate the link to the DIVX version, just the same. The YouTube clip wasn't clear enough for me to be sure that Alizée's necklace was a dolphin, as I suspected.
