Jeez, struck a nerve did I?
No it doesn't affect me, but all I'm saying is there are more important issues feminists can spend their time on besides whether or not to be able to call someone "Mademoiselle" on a document. What about the women forced into sexual slavery in other parts of the world? Or others that aren't even allowed to be seen outside the home without a man? Don't you think that is a more pressing issue than whether or not a woman might be called "available" on a legal document? That is all I was trying to say. |

That is such bullshit. Don't belittle someone's efforts. Don't act like they're doing nothing because they aren't tackling bigger issues. Maybe if you didn't have such a "problem" with it things would get done quicker. You're a man, you already have dominate power in your society, why aren't you procuring rights for women in other countries? Doesn't sound so easy now when someone tells you to do it. You can start by not having a problem when women in your own country try to take a small step forward.

I'm gonna back off before this gets out of hand. PM me if you have any more problems with my beliefs.

As was said, there are a lot more serious issues to work on, but it's not an either/or situation and working on one does not preclude working on another. I see no harm in winning a few of the easier battles along the way while trying to also solve the more serious ones. It just seems practical to me.

I'll decline that invitation. I addressed your beliefs in a public forum because you presented them in a public forum. I wasn't attacking you. I'll only continue this discussion if something is posted in this thread that I feel like responding to. I think I said all I wanted to say though.

This reminds me something I read: "A group from PETA were standing outside a furrier and began throwing paint balloons at the elderly women who were coming out with their new expensive furs. Why don't these people show some real balls and throw paint balloons at a group of Hells Angels?"
I say why not have real equality and make it the woman's prerogative instead of making the choice for her? I, for one, am proud to be a Miss instead of Ms. Does this mean they will also have to address young girls as 'Madam'? I always thought that the word Madam carried a term of maturity and respect. |
