By the way, I'm still working on L'Alize. There's more to it than I thought. |

I'm trying hard to find a good interpretation for the song L'Alize and it's not easy especially for me, someone who can't figure out the simplest of poems, but I was looking at the lines; J'embrasse toute une armée..............I embrace a whole army De r'ves et de bleuets.......................of dreams and corn flowers Me plonger dedans...........................I dive into them Je sais ce que je sais........................I know what I know Même si j'pleure tout l'temp..............even if I cry all the time Alors, dis. The word bleuets has different meanings to it, such as blueberries, cornflowers, berries and young Frenchmen. By the way, I found this site to be a good one as far as giving several possible definitions of words: https://context.reverso.net/ In an interpretation of L'Alize I had seen before, they used cornflowers. Now I had never heard that word before and I've learned it it's native to Europe and often grew as a weed in fields of grain and that's how it got it's name. It's actually a beautiful flower and I think I will add some to my yard this year to remind me of the song and the woman who sang it. Reverso net said it also could mean young Frenchmen and Wikimedia said "In folklore, cornflowers were worn by young men in love; if the flower faded too quickly, it was taken as a sign that the man's love was not returned.". So I think maybe Mylene wanted it to have a double meaning. She wanted bleuets to have the meaning of beautiful flowers but also the meaning of young men and Alizee was going through that transitional stage of adolescence 'diving' if you will into a bed of blue flowers but also, a life of young men. Now unfortunately as far as the English version of this song, I think 'cornflower' is not a very pleasant word, sound wise. In the line; L'esprit à mille à l'heure............the spirit of a thousand an hour, I think the word kilometer was left out and left to be understood because that is not a very pleasant sounding word for a song, but I think we'll probably have to include cornflower in the English lyrics for this song. bleuets.jpg Last edited by Scruffydog777; 02-28-2020 at 09:45 AM.. |

I could go into a really long explanation of how I came up with this, which I'll do if anyone asks that of me, but this is a song by MF. Trying to figure out what she meant is a difficult thing I'm sure even for people who speak French.
But I think I came up with a version that flows as well as it can, at least as well as anything out there. No doubt I had to make some compromises but I'm pleased with the result All the winds sweep the evil from the heart Me, I'm like the wind the spirit of a thousand miles an hour I judge too quickly no doubt That's okay, too bad even It's just that I'm worried I grow up as does my love It's by the grace of the wind that I love to wander around Me, I'm like the wind I embrace a whole army of dreams and blue flowers I dive into them I know that which I know although I cry all the time So I say wait! They tell me that the wind has turned It's not true If you don't mind wait, before saying of adolescence, that it's, that which we don't yet know, because I have found my love It's a breeze, it's a soft wind of love It is gentle, it is Alizé Me, I say that love will drink without end What she wants, Alizee always has it Like the wind sweeps the evil from the heart in a hurricane whirling a thousand miles an hour I'm no doubt like it It's okay, I am at the gates of my life I'm growing up, so is my love it is with the four winds that I like to live Me, I'm like the wind I carry all my secrets In a garden of Eden Lying in it I know this hymm will last a long time So I say wait! Thanks! It's not an easy job and I'm sure it could be improved on but I think this imo flows better than anything I've seen so far.
